Fake Snowdonia Coat help please

I look after a lady with quite severe mental impairments. She has ordered a Snowdonia coat, but it has come from China, with chinese labels, definitely not a Snowdonia coat. The website has nowhere to get in touch with anyone to return it. I looked into it for her, the website is a total scam.

I've tried to start a charge back through her bank, but they are asking for an official stockists list, and I can't find one anywhere, I can't even find a Snowdonia clothing website.

The lady doesn't really want to get the police involved, or Trading Standards.

Please can anyone help? Thanks in advance.

Unless she can get a chargeback, there's nothing she can do. The police won't be interested and TS don't get involved in individual cases. If she does get a chargeback, then she should return the coat.

How much did she pay in relation to the cost of a genuine Snowdonia?
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales
  • She paid over £93 pounds for it

Can see lots of shops selling Snowdonia brand coats but as you say, no actual website. Looking at the shops selling them it looks like a Sports Direct type brand.

Ah, yes, all the shops selling them I can see are part of the JD Williams group, Very, Simply Be, Jacamo, Crazy Clearance, Ambrose Wilson etc so I would expect to to be their own brand name.

Where did you expect the snowdownia coat to be made?
It looks like they make plus size coats
If she has severe mental impairments, should she be ordering off the internet.
    Which site is it?
  • Hollydays, she lives alone, I can't be with her all the time, and she has been warned and warned about being careful online.

I didn't 'expected' Snowdonia coats to have a manufacturer, as most clothing makes do.
I thought it was a brand like Mountain Warehouse etc.

I will try getting in touch with JD Williams, and see if they can help. Thank you PDC

It's a cheap coat, people don't fake cheap coats.
Perhaps you have to accept she's bought a cheapish coat, end of.

I suspect you could easily pay that price for a coat from JD Williams if you're not careful.

I did wonder that myself but unfortunately there are cheap/fake sites for most things now.

A quick Google brought up in-motion .org.uk which carries this brand and, to me, looks to be one of those websites selling fake items.
  • Hi,

First of all, I don't understand all the unhelpful comments on this thread, what is wrong with you all, the lady is asking for some help here?

Regarding the question, it seems that it may be helpful to contact the banking ombudsman to obtain a view on the banks potential liability in this case - it may be that there is some comeback, I don't know for sure, but if you contact them and give a brief account of the facts and timeline they may be able to verify if there is any potential chargeback solution - let's face it, the bank will do everything to put you off if there is!
If they confirm there is not, then at least you won't have to waste any more energy on trying to sort this out. It's a sad fact that the tricksters of this world prey on the vulnerable, increasingly through online and digital scams and there banks don't do enough to protect against this.

Good luck, and hope you score something for consumer justice!

JD Williams own the trademark to Snowdonia clothing so should be able to say if it's genuine.
