He's going to be in South Sudan for the next 9 months so won't be able do anything if they decide to take him to court. And if he fails the appeal, how much will he have to pay then? Several hundred pounds?

Can he set up mail direct with a BFPO address, or can someone intercept his mail or have it redirected to them on his behalf?

Costs should be about £175 if he loses, but this is so simple to beat at PoPLA. Unfortunately if the NTK wasn't appealed then this option is probably no longer available as the initial appeal deadline will have passed.

Appeal once, get a PoPLA code.
Appeal to PoPLA and win. Save £175.
So daft not to have done this.

It's still worth sending the initial appeal late. He could even own up to being the driver and resetting the clock, relying on an inadequate signage point to win at PoPLA. Doing nothing may result in a court case whilst he is away, and a default judgement and a CCJ when he comes back from deployment, so he MUST do something to stop this.

I sent in the NTK appeal on his behalf, just inside the deadline, at the same time as SAR to DVLA. I presume they'll take the full 35 days to respond by which time he'll already have left the country. Mail to BFPO can take weeks to reach them.

This is the reason he's considering just paying the £100 now as he can't risk a CCJ as he'll be applying for a mortgage when he returns.

Good, so can he do a mail redirect to you, or a relative, before he goes, even if it is only to intercept the UKPC crap?
It only takes minutes to fill in the redirect form at a Post Office and it takes effect pretty quickly.

Well done on your efforts by the way. You are a good friend to help him out. I hope he appreciates it.

Yes, we could do that. I did a POPLA appeal with these robbing scumbags a few years ago, so I'll have to see if I can dig out the letter I sent. I'm sure I saved it somewhere. Ironically, my ticket was given in exactly the same place he's received his :rotfl:

Things have changed in the last few years, so your previous PoPLA appeal might be useful for reference, but you need to make sure you also use the most up to date information.

You can find this in post 3 of the NEWBIES.

UKPC's normal signage is crap so that should be point 1, using their own crap pics plus the looooong template appeal point. If you can get up to date pics that show the current signs on site are crap, even better.

Look especially for the £100 charge and see if you can pick it out from more than a few paces away from the signs. Normally you need opera glasses to do this.

Then include all the other template appeal points from NEWBIES post 3 that are relevant. Post the draft here for checking before submitting it.

When you win, put in your order for free beer from your friend. (Other beverage choices are available.)
