I understand it is their policy but had they made me aware of it before they handed me the disc I would not have accepted it.

You don't have a legal right to return or exchange goods bought in a shop, just the shop's goodwill. There's no need to notify you of this in advance, you shouldn't have assumed it.

They don't have to tell you their returns policy prior to every purchase, that's not a consumer right.

You made the mistake and you readily admit it..

It's the policy of most if not all sellers I think.
  • Your quite right I did assume this was the case for everything, it appears I must be more vigilant and assertive when it comes to things I am buying this has definitely been lesson.

Do asda still do the cd behind the counter? All the ones i've been in switched years ago to using dummy boxes on the shelf which you take to the counter and receive a real copy that is sealed.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride

If they won't take it back you could take it to CEX. You'll get less than you paid for it but it's better than nothing.

You mean far, far less, almost nothing in fact. :(
  • Some people are just jobsworths. Go back, speak to someone else, and they will probably sort this out for you.

You mean someone probably on NMW that wants to keep their job by sticking to store policy? Why should the worker put their job in jeopody when it was the customer that made a mistake?

What is it about this sense of entitlement that makes some people, not the OP, think that others should forfeit their jobs to fall in with their wishes? I used to get it all the time in CS

Did you ask for a refund or an exchange?
Was it the wrong game or the right game but on the wrong platform (ie bought the xbox copy but meant to get ps4 or vice versa)?
You'd need to appeal to a supervisor, but they may be willing to be more flexible for an exchange.

As others have mentioned, you could take it somewhere like CEX which won't get you much cash back, but trading it in for store credit (£28), then using that credit to buy an alternative used game would probably see you much less out of pocket (a different game though, since they want £40 for BO4 used which is more than a brand new copy elsewhere).

Not ideal but better than nothing.
