Probably not.
It's a job advertisement. The minimum wage applies. It would appear that someone has come up with a cunning plan to try and get care on the cheap.
Personally I think it unlikely that they would ever find someone willing to legitimately provide 35 hours of care for £64.60 a week plus a 'top up' to the maximum of £120 a week you can earn to qualify for carer's allowance (if that's what they mean), when they could £274 a week doing the same thing through an agency.
It sounds more like an invitation to commit benefit fraud.:)Keep on trucking!0 -
My impression was that it was fraud. I mentioned the cousine as that it what was in the advert. I agree I could have left that out but if they had put pie and mash etc. I would also have stated that.
I was just starting a valid discussion. Now I know it is not only me who thought it was enticing fraud, I will try to complain to Streetwise about it.Keep on trucking!0 -

. . think about it.
It was the first thing that came to my mind too, it was completely irrelevant information to the original post and I can't think of any possible reason for it needing to be added other than to make everyone assume they are of Asian origin and to get that to bias our opinions. It could well be a white British family who just happen to prefer Asian cuisine but there was no need to bring it up.
I wasn't going to post to mention it, I was just going to ignore the blatant racism, it's possible that others are doing the same and that's why only one person brought it up, doesn't mean others are not thinking the same thing.
The person posting the ad is in the wrong, I don't need any implication of their race or to know their dietary preferences to know that so there was no need to include it in the post.0 -
I didn't see the type of food mentioned as racist, but stressing that the food should be properly cooked not stuff heated in a microwave.Member #14 of SKI-ers club

You get microwave curries and pre-made chapattis. If it said (home cooked) I wouldn't have taken issue. I took issue because most people will think this:I thought it just indicated that the family was of Asian origin.
Which was my point. It's totally irrelevant to the question whether the family is Asian or not. It's no more or less benefit fraud. Fosterdog said it better than me, I won't try and rephrase.0 -

I don't automatically see racism when race is mentioned.
Is that wrong?Which was my point. It's totally irrelevant to the question whether the family is Asian or not. It's no more or less benefit fraud. Fosterdog said it better than me, I won't try and rephrase.
It sounds like the advertiser wants someone to work for a pittance.
I hope some vulnerable, desperate person doesn't take the job on.0 -

I literally quoted what you said next?! You saw Asian cuisine and assumed they were of Asian origin.
Am I wrong?
Am I a racist?
:huh:Neither do I! Just when it's mentioned totally unnecessarily.
If he'd just wanted someone who could cook any cuisine, I don't think he'd have mentioned chapattis etc.
The OP was just reporting what the advert says.0
