Sim only deals explanation

Hi,
I've always been Pay as you go on t-mobile
I'm looking to change and I've been looking at SIM only.
But unless you go with Giffgaff pretty much everything else is a 12 month contract for a better deal, so it's not that flexible, you are tie up to a contract

If you take one of these 12 month SIM only, do the networks raise the price during the contract?

Fairly good deals are now on Black Friday or as a new customer. After the 12 month period will they charge full amount without discounts ?

do I have to give them notice if I want to cancel when the one year finishes ?

which network is best ? all networks reviews I read all have complains

I need a lot of data, nothing less than 15gb . I'm looking at 20gb to be on the safe side

  • Plusnet are a rolling monthly contract.

Any network could raise the price at any time, doesn't mean they will.

What's the price after a discount price finishes? You'd have to check any particular deal you're interested in.

After the 12 months just ask for your PAC (don't cancel) and they'll offer you a deal most likely.

No such thing as 'best network', it's whichever gives you the coverage in your areas you frequent most and then it's down to price and features.

I was with Life which is now Plusnet, I still pay £6 for 1500 minutes, Unl Txt and 1 or 2GB data? Never been charged more than £6. So enough for me.

    plusnet is worth a look.
same network as your are on
    1 month deals.
most contracts say prices will rise automatiic in line with RPI. But we are only taking a pence here
  • Plustnet doesn't give as much data that I need.

To be honest, I don't know where all the data goes. I don't download or watch videos and yet apparently I used about 3gb in a week an a half.

I use social media and webpages, news etc., email when I'm on the bus

I have BT broadband. I might look into their mobile deals.
I know is part of EE , I wonder if their service is OK, all I see is complains about all networks or fake reviews

If you don't stream music or watch video, then 2 or 3 Gb per month should be more than enough - maybe even 1 or 2 Gb per month.

If you are using up 3Gb in a week and a half, there must be something wrong with your phone or its settings or maybe you have a virus that is gobbling up your data.

The first step should be to identify which apps are using most of the data and either change the settings or get rid of them. With News apps you can reduce the update frequency if they are gobbling too much data, on FB you can set it so that videos don't play automatically etc

Remember, only a minority of people have issues with their mobile network. And we've seen on here that many of them are self-inflicted.

I don't quite understand this. You say that you are currently on payg with t-mobile but are using around 3gb in a week and a half!

How much are you paying for all of this data usage at payg rates?

Are you sure about your data usage as, given your pattern of use mentioned above I would have thought more like 300 megabytes rather than 3gb.

Also make sure that any app updates are only done via WiFi and also that your phone connects to your WiFi when at home. If you are permanently running on a 4g data connection then app updates could be the cause of your problems.

As an aside, I am also on a rolling monthly Plusnet contract and find the service excellent.

I to am with life now plusnet , £6 per month , I have set a basic £1 threshhold that can be use to phone police etc , been with them 3 yrs this xmas

was on PAYG previously , tried most but any with a decent amount of mins (say over 100-200) you ended up buying packages for £10 -£15

my credit rating was not the best , so majority of contracts were a no go , life then plusnet have been good to me

yes, I have a t-mobile internet booster . Up until now my internet never run out and I had no idea how much I was using (if you are still on t-mobile, there is no way to check on EE) I've just got a new booster for another 6 months (£40) a couple of weeks ago and soon after my intern stopped working, I called them up and told me I had used all my allowance for that month and explained that I wouldn't be getting unlimited anymore and because t-mobile runs on 3g the service won't be as good..etc)
so that's why I'm looking at SIM only with large data
