O/S Daily Sunday 25th November 2018

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Still quite dark here but dry and not too breezy - air feels quite cool though.

DH and I are enjoying first peaceful cuppas - boys still in their pits.

Dinner last night was pizza, scotch egg, chips, side salad. Lunch today will be roast lamb, roasties, cauli/broc cheese, carrots, peas, swede (me only), yorkshires and gravy.

Got the bits of ironing done that needed it, and washing dried, folded and put away. We then went out in the afternoon to buy the paint, and the colours we had chosen only had 1 or 2 pots on the shelf and they were marked down for clearance, so we did manage to find what we wanted and it was cheaper than we had worked out last time we went, so hopefully there will be enough for what we want.

It will be a chill day hopefully as we went out yesterday to see the parents. I'll just get organised for going back to work tomorrow.

Keep safe and well x

  • Good morning and thank you for starting today's thread nmlc.

I have been up for a few hours, have not done anything useful other than loading the wm.

No plans really, I will be making dinner (a beef casserole ) and can do as I please for the remainder of the day. DS will be home later, probably early afternoon.

I usually see a friend on Sundays though she retired very recently so we are no longer restricted to the weekend. She is away at present. She and her OH retired on the same day. On the following day, they went to the middle east for a week, returned and 24 hours later she went off to S Africa with another friend for 3 weeks. She should be back very soon but then she and her OH will be off to Cyprus for a week and finally will go skiing over Christmas. I'm tired even thinking of all that.

Sending positive thoughts to all those who are unwell, sad or worried.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

    Good morning all,

The HT and I are up and have had breakfast. Today's plans involve a roast dinner this evening and I would like to finish knitting the cord for the row of knitted fairy lights that I am making. I also need to iron the HT's school uniform.

If I'm feeling brave I may make a start on decorating the Christmas cake that I need to have ready at the end of the week to take to my friend's house with us. I'm not icing our cake or his this year. We're having them topped with fruit and nuts and then glazed. That means that I only have to ice and marzipan one cake in December (yay) and I already have plans for a simple decoration for that. I like baking but I'm not artistic at all so all decorating has to be very simple for me to enjoy it.

Take care all of you :)

    Morning everyone
Still in bed with my breakfast but will need to move soon as I have a couple of things to do before I go down to sit with my dad whilst mam's at church. Going down to youngest DD's after lunch as I need to take up the curtains on her patio doors. Sewing is definitely not my favourite job so I could be feeling slightly irritable by the time I finish...but at least they should look a bit better.
Youngest DD is signed off work for another week. She is still in a lot of pain as baby is lying on a nerve. She came into town with me yesterday just for an hour and managed to walk very slowly, she was shattered when we got home and had a sleep.
Managed to sort the Christmas paper and card I bought in January and don't need to buy any so that's good. also looked through what I've already bought and wrote a list as I'm going to Newcastle next Saturday.
Well, better move...hope everyone has a good day

    Morning :)

7 hrs sleep last night :j my next trick will be to try to do it all in one go not 2 hours at a time, Still sleep is sleep I guess

As I could have predicted I didn't finish my work yesterday so its back to it today I hate Sunday work I have the feeling that the rest of the world is lying in bed chillin all day and I'm jealous. Anyway ill try to get mostly done by this afternoon then i can indulge in a christmas film :o

My Hairy Biker book arrived yesterday so I will be opening a nice new pack of post its and go through marking the ones I want to cook :o Its a tradition with a new cookbook :D

Food today will not be Hairy Biker inspired unless I have the ingredients which is unlikely although i have spotted a lush looking lentil and bacon soup which I may well have the stuff in for.

Right best crack on, Have a good day all
  • Oh I'm envious Boz, I would love one, they are so pretty. I have a massive ugly rescue cat who is very loved but the total opposite in nature.

    Morning folks.

It's very frosty outside so I'm loathe to get up! No central heating here so I need to light the woodburner so I can function.

Yesterday I had a slightly farcical spat with A mazon. I'd ordered a book and received two copies, in separate packets. When I phoned up I was told that I could keep both books. Told them I had no need of two, they said I could give one away - it's brand new. Eventually I was given a return label by email. Next email said to keep the extra book! I'll have to give it to a CS

Food will be one of the massive chicken legs I cooked last night with some veggies from the freezer.

There's a washing load to go on and the dishwasher needs to be emptied. The kitchen also needs to be tidied up, I seem to have dumped a load of papers in there, that has to be sorted.

Coughing is less frequent and fairly pathetic so I slept all through last night. Now...virtual hugs to all.

    Happy Sunday.

Help, I feel as if I live in a plague house. After weeks of treatments, flea traps and flea bombs I'm still been bitten. It's a good job I love the Ziggypops otherwise I wouldn't be letting her through the door again. We've had several dogs over the years but never had this problem. Ziggy is treated but I think they hop on to her and then hop off into the carpet, she's very sociable with other dogs.

Cranky, I'm the same with decorating cakes, I'm full of admiration for those who do it well.
