Which laptop? (Argos)

I don’t play games, watch videos or create multimedia or listen to music on it just the basic stuff I mentioned.
Use the money to get a bigger screen0 -
Sorry to contradict my colleagues but you do not need a SSD. The extra space of a HDD will be useful, and at your budget a lot of the other components will have been downgraded just so they can say "SSD" on the box.
Use the money to get a bigger screen
First off - not your colleague.
Secondly, every one of the OPs ststed intended uses will be a better experience when using an SSD.
Not once has the OP mentioned that large drive capacity was a requirement, so how will they find that "useful"
It is much better to have a smaller sized SSD than a huge, mostly empty mech drive.
Of course extra space for more docs can easily be added by use of a 64GB "thumb drive" if required0 -
Thanks everyone. Appreciate the input.
As much as the technical speak frightens me haha I think I’ve managed to keep up.0 -

To OP, techies in general endorse SSDs largely on the basis of their own personal experience. It's like a racing driver saying that a turbo is essential. Well it is, if you spend all your time on a racetrack. If you need to commute to college, you do not need a turbo. It can be very difficult to impartially advise someone a solution to match their stated requirements without slipping into their own personal preferences. It happens a lot. By all means get a SSD if you like, but they are small capacity for the money. Do not however rely on USB flash drives for data storage, USB flash is a transit medium only and are prone to failure.0 -
So I’m looking at a laptop with more storage is what your saying?0

What do YOU think you need? What's most important for YOU?
For your stated usage (in your OP) you don't need an SSD. You also don't need large amounts of storage (unless your research and assignments activities mean you need to download lots of materials).
My personal preference would be to go for an SSD because the speed of response of everything will just feel better. If you find you need more storage then simply get a 1TB external USB HDD to make your backups to.0 -
Thank you!0

This wasn't a reference to you.
OP didn't say speed was a requirement either. But that's OK because it's your opinion not mine I suppose?

Think mc'fly think ..
Not one of the OPs designated uses will be affected by having 2TB of unused drive space.
But every one of those experiences will be made that little bit better by not having to wait for the spinning rust to react to what they are doing.
Contrary to your little rant, it was YOU who were giving YOUR opinion.
I was giving advice that would benefit the OP with their requested stipulations0 -
Hope you get sorted, loads of good advice from everyone.0
