It makes you wonder, Im one of those people once the item has had feedback left, chuck the receipt away.

Guess it wll have to be an early New years resolution - keep receipts etc - dont file in rubbish bin x

*always* keep receipts just in case. A minimum of 6 months in case of chargebacks.

Also of course anyone buying to sell on ebay will need the postage receipts anyway in case their accounts get audited by the tax man. For all those in this position the usual advice is keep all receipts for expenses for 6 years, so that includes any postal receipts from the PO.

Without the tracking slip, you could be in trouble.

I sold an item on ebay, received positive feedback, etc etc. MONTHS later, paypal investigated the payment. I think they do this randomly with some items over £250 ?? They asked for tracking info, which I couldn't provide. Like I said, I'd sold the item months before and the buyer had left positive feedback saying they'd received it.

Paypal then took the money out my account, leaving me with a negative balance. Eventually some debt company called and I had to pay the negative balance.

Despite the fact that my buyer had confirmed they received the item, it didn't matter. £250 down.

So, without the tracking slip.... I'd fear the worst :(

I think I would have taken Paypal to the small claims court to recover you money in this case, what they have done is wrong.

Didn't you ask the buyer to refund you your money back?

The buyer didn't receive any money from paypal. They paid for the item. So they pay £250 via paypal, it comes to me, I withdraw it, then Paypal just took the money from my account - simple as that. I spoke to a few people, but no one could help. They also ignored my emails complaining.
Without the tracking info, I'm screwed. Thiefs!

It's just so annoying, since everyone (apart from paypal obviously) were happy with the transaction !!

hate to say it but your screwed over with this , i had the same done to me . buyer bought phone , buyer left goood feedback " got phone today doughter will love it " then 2 months later i got a charge back for the phone , called paypal who said sent any info , so i sent a copy of her feed back and they said that " the credit card company will need proof of delivery and the final decision is not ours " luckily i found my consignment note and won my own money back . you need to find the tracking number or you will loose . sorry to say

Sorry I thought Paypal took the £250 back from you and gave it back to the buyer, which to my mind is theft, you had been paid for goods that had been delivered and accepted by the buyer, Paypal therefore do not have any rights to just take money back from your account and give it to whoever they feel like.
  • Thanks for all your opinions guys!

Since posting, I've obviously read up on Paypal's T&C and consoled myself at the prospect of losing £65. You win some...

Valuable lesson learnt however, and read some right horror stories about Paypal into the bargain. I have been a user of ebay/paypal for 4-5 years and never had a real issue until now, so I should really count myself lucky, I suppose!

I would have liked to take this a step further and gone to Small Claims, not against Paypal, however, but the buyers. Leaving feedback may not mean anything relevant to Paypal, of course, but that's not neccessarily the case in front of a judge. I may now not have any proof that I sent it, but I sure have proof that they acknowledged receipt of it.

Anyway, that's a battle I can do without at present, as I have just found out that my wife is expecting again! :j But, then again......:rotfl:

Why not get a Royal Mail 'Signed for Posting Book' (Product #: P1038)
& a roll of Recorded stickers (Product #: P2223) rather keeping loads of little slips
  • What a great idea!
