  • Nobody said 'in an abusive manner' apart from you, as far as I can see. In fairness, the original reaction was a bit aggressive.

Anyway, it's a stressful time. Let's be kind to one another.
Soz,,,wuz only joshin' with Hengus btw! :D
  • Hi, I currently owe extra energy a couple of hundred quid from a final bill they set so unfairly high a couple of years ago, that I am still paying it off! Now that they have gone bust, am I still liable to pay the debt?

Yes, you still have to pay it off as it will get picked up by Scottish Power.
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers

The MSE Extra energy article says you will either have to settle with Scottish Power or with the administrators dealing with Extra Energy. Personally, I would get clarification when you speak to Scottish Power to avoid any surprises.
  • It was 2 weeks ago Sunday I saw in the Mail that Extra was going I didnt see anything on this site at that point, I actually got an e-mail today from Martin Lewes saying it had gone, long after I first discovered, yes I did think it was rather rude "if I had bothered to check this site", I have one pc sits at home on the desk, no other way of acessing the site. I left Scottish for Extra after getting new meter fitted and bloke putting in my night and day readings the pooosite way round took 9 months of severe agro to sort out!
  • Thank you cats, lets hope it doesnt get like Mumsnet on here!

I have wasted a lot of time trying to sort this situation out and I have to say I am very disappointed with Scottish Power and OFGEM who appear to be completely toothless.
I was on an Extra Energy fixed price tariff until October 2020 based on a reasonable price and a long fix but EE have gone bust within three weeks of my new tariff starting.
As requested, I have submitted my meter readings online to SP and this leads to a screen offering three tariffs with an estimated annual cost 'based on your estimated usage' - there is however not indication as to what consumption is assumed or what rate it will be charged at.
Ironically, this works out as £200pa less than I am currently paying but I can only assume that the consumption assumed is wrong because based on the Cheap Energy Club numbers, the best SP tariff I can get will cost me nearly £300 extra per year, and if I accept a quote SP have given me, I could end up paying a lot more if the consumption is wrong.
I rang SP to try to clarify the situation and having waited in the queue for 25 minutes, I was told by the service centre assistant that they had no idea how the quotes had been arrived at and could not help me and they could not even give me a quote without an account number. They suggested I waited for SP to contact me.
I rang OFGEM and asked why I couldn't transfer straight away to another supplier but was told the switch would be delayed if I did.I also asked them why SP had been chosen and why were they allowed to charge me whatever they wanted until I switched away from them- they said this was because SP were the best supplier in the circumstances and they would probably charge me variable rate which would be expensive. They didn't know why I had to wait four weeks to switch.
Given, my knowledge I would suggest the following actions for any one else in my situation:
1.Cancel your direct debit- no point in giving them any more money
2.Take a meter reading- if you didn't take one on 25.11.18 estimate backwards to the balance at that day based on your usage (bearing in mind SP will charge you a high rate)
3.Calculate a final 'bill' for EE supplied energy pre 26.11.18- take last bill readings away from current reading.
    - if you owe them money- do nothing until the administrator asks for the money
-if they owe you- make sure there is a credit on your first SP bill for it.
4.Do your homework on available other tariffs via the CEC and determine the best for you.- don't forget that you may well be eligible for cash back of c£25 for switching (I have found that the best tariff is with British Gas where a one year fix will only cost £7 pa more + I will get £25 cash back) - I would recommend sticking to the 'big boys' here incase the same happens to another energy provider.
5.Accept the default SP tariff on the basis it should only be for a short period.
6.Once your SP account is set up, switch straight away to the tariff in 4. above.

I am on point 5 in this process, hoping for some clarity on the default rates.

Yep, I'm doing the same (with exception of 1 above) and have also just got to point 5. Let's see what comparison sites offer in 3-4 weeks.
  • Well these Low life despicable horrible sharlitons have finally went out of business.
I will be having a small dram to celebrate.
The only thing is I feel so so sorry for all the ounest people and the vulnerable soles that they have fleecest and the people that will loose money and the mental anguish they have caused.
So lets make sure that ANYONE associated (aspeshaly the top Rats) with this racket are brought to task and are never aloud to do this again. All so that they face criminal charges they deserve.

Please people before you change companies DO YOUR RESEARCH and don't listen to what the Snake oil sales men say.
Just lighting a cigar and I will sleep better tonight. God bless and BE SAFE.

Was with extra energy and only just found out that it’s gone bust and I have been put over to Scottish power. They sent me an email to pick a tariff but the cheapest one was £20 more a month than I’m paying now. I know I was in credit with EE but the website has been taken down and I can’t remember how much it was. Now I suppose I can’t transfer until the switch is sorted not happy anyone else in this situation out there? any advice most appreciated
