extra energy bust

Is there anyone else out there with Extra Energy? I read quite a large article in the Mail On Sunday, saying it was predicted that 1 in 7 of the smaller energy companies would go bust, because of the green taxes they owed, Extra was one, owing nearly 15 mill. Spark was another, I almost changed to them, but their customer service reviews were terrible. I gather ofcom will now put me with another supplier. I have been sent different deals, one expires on Tuesday. The only reason I even knew they had actually gone bust, was because there was a really tiny article in the Sun yesterday, City News, not even head Extra Engery, I wouldnt have even spotted it, my Husband did.

  • Hello. I am not with Extra Energy. I don't know much but they seem to have a UK and a German website. Only the UK one has closed. Spark Energy (who I was a customer with at one point) seems to be in talks with a "medium sized" supplier based in England about merging. Ofcom is more to do with telephones etc. Nanny Beach, I would honestly hold off for now and your supply will move to a new company and from my experience with GB Energy Supply and Iresa, you will be fine. You won't lose any money. Just maybe get a different tariff.

OfGem the energy regulator will appoint what is known as a Supplier of Last Resort (SoLR). The SoLR will take-over all Extra Energy's customers so there will be no interruption of supply. The appointed supplier will be in touch with future tariff details and advice on what to do next. If you have a credit balance, then this will be transferred to the SoLR. You can then decide whether to stay with the SoLR or switch to a A N Other supplier.

PS Spark is currently looking for a takeover according to press reports.

It was well documented on this site the day the news broke and MSE have already opened up a thread without the need for further posters to open up their own new threads. If you had bothered to do a search on this site you have known about it earlier.
  • I also only found out by chance as well, OP. I happened to respond to a MSE email about my tariff deals and signed into EE to see the site is down. I heard nothing on the news, so assume I missed it being reported. There is a thread about it but TBH nothing much on it. Advice from Ofgem as stated.

Fine if you spend time on this site regularly. Not everyone does.
Why would anyone want to “bother” doing a search? Are you suggesting we should be doing daily checks on all the companies that we’re with to check if they are still trading?
You may not have meant to, but your comment comes across as a bit critical.

Sadly, attacking the poster rather than answering the post is becoming the norm on this forum. I will get my tin hat.

Attacking the poster in an abusive manner !!...are you serious?...I’ve never seen any evidence of that sort of thing on here,...this is a friendly forum.

Get real!,....you should be banned for posting unsubstantiated rubbish like that.

What planet are you on?...Jeez, some people, eh!:mad::mad:

Nobody said 'in an abusive manner' apart from you, as far as I can see. In fairness, the original reaction was a bit aggressive.

Anyway, it's a stressful time. Let's be kind to one another.
  • So, I see we are going over to Scottish Power…
