Hi ppl , would really apreciate some advice. im a Single mum with a 6 year old son planning to visit walt disney world in may 2009. i want to stay somewhere central or international drive somewhere where im not too far from the parks and theyre easy to get to either by walking or by shuttle. just a few questions to start with...
how long is international drive and where would be the best place to stay bearing in mind i am on a budget and i want to be located central and close to disney?
how much walking is involved in and around disney would a six year old child be able to manage all the walking. would taking a scooter be a good idea?
i plan to go to universal studios should i set aside one day or two days for this park?
how much would a taxi cost from orlando international airport to international drive?
thanks and happy 2009 to all !!0 -

Hi,
If you stay on anywhere on idrive get the 14 day pass on the iride trolley which is $17. idrive is pretty long look at http://www.iridetrolley.com/map.asp
We stayed at the quality inn plaza and got on the iride to sea harbor drive (just outside seaworld) then waited for a linx bus to Disney it was $1 each when we last went.
i would say set out 1 day for each park you go to. so for universal studios and islands of adventure you are looking at 2 days.
If you book with virgin they give you free transfers from the airport to the hotel
Hope this helps0 -
cheers nick that really helpful
happy new year0 -

Hi
The other parts of your question have been covered so I wont go over them. As for the taxi, my advice would be not to use one but instead use a company called Tiffany Town Cars.
https://www.tiffanytowncars.com
They will offer better rates than a cab and more helpful for you they will meet you with a uniform driver in baggage claim and he will be the same driver that takes you back if you want.
There is also a coupon on their site.
I have used them for many many years and they are great.

I done exactly what you are planning with my daughter and I would advise staying at Disney if you can if you are going to be spending most of your time there( I think there is a free disney bus service from international airport but not sandford)
First time I went I stayed on international drive and to be honest it was a pain on your own with a young child for taxis and buses etc.
After that I have always stayed at Disney and will carry on doing that until she gets bored of it which will be never!
International drive is easy to get to with the bus services and also universal studios. I usually buy a 2 day pass for universal studios/islands of adventure and just get the bus back or if really late get a taxi.
It really depends where you are going to be spending most of your time where is best to stay. Disneys pop century is great and not too expensive - added bonus of great transportation around disney free, great pools etc. I know what its like on a budget and having to pay an adult price for a child when there is only 2 of you going.
Would also like to say that felt safe there as a single parent.0 -
thanks for all the info . how did you daughter managed with all the walking ? and would taking a scooter be a good idea0

They do get tired, just dont get caught up in all the hype (hard I know) so much to do in so little time! Ive been 4 times and done loads but still not done everything. Because there is so much to see you dont actually realise how far you actually walk.
As for the scooter, they are not allowed in the parks (anyone correct me if im wrong?)
Its a hard going holiday but once you have been, no other holiday can come close to it. You will have a ball!0 -
thats sorted the scooter dilemma. its going to be really difficult not to get carried away. thanks for all the advice0
