Was just wondering if anyone knew how long it would take to drive to miami from davenport

  • Hello. Having also spent my honeymoon in Florida (well, the second half of it, as spent the first half skiing in Vail, Colorado), I would totally go for Florida. A lot depends on the time of year when you are going as to what area would be best to stay in (further south of Florida if going winter). If you want to go to the Orlando area and visit parks then I guess it doesn't matter too much what time of year you go and you will have a wonderful time. There are some amazing hotels on the Atlantic coast. We stayed in the Boca Raton resort, which was out of this world, but if totally honest, wasn't really our thing and we'd have been just as happy in a decent motel. Sounds daft, but in Florida, life is all about eating out in the many wonderful restaurants (breakfast, lunch and dinner), shopping and of course the lovely beaches and theme parks. If you want a relaxing, away from it honeymoon, then that can be achieved in Florida if you go to the quieter resorts (such as Florida Keys as previously mentioned), but don't be put off by Florida. My husband and I went before we were married, as part of our honeymoon and later this year are taking our daughters for the first time (they will be 2 and 4). We can't wait to introduce them to the most varied place we know. You can be busy and quiet within Florida if you know where to go. If you get the chance to go, St Augustine is lovely for a day trip, or couple of days. It has bags of charm and totally gets you away from the whole Disney thing if you need to. Best thing to do is buy a down to earth guide of Florida and find out about all the places off the beaten track. However, don't avoid Disney etc..... It has to be done, but a week out of a fortnight holiday is probably more than enough. Congratulations on your forthcoming wedding.

I have never been to St Augustine, but my idea of a honeymoon wouldn't include Florida unless you went to Clearwater for a few days then flew to from Tampa to Miami and drove down to Key West for the remainder.
Would most likely work out cheaper than the Maldives and be far less restricted.

We had much the same problem with the Photo Pass, unfortunately there's no way of retrieving them once it's past their sell by date, Disney wipe them off the system automatically.... just means you'll have to go again, good excuse!

just to let anyone know that this may happen to in the future, you can indeed retrieve the photos after the expiry date given by disney, as stated in previous post our photos expired on the 16/09/08, so today(21/09/08) on the off chance we sent them an email explaining that we had lost our photos, due to a mix up with the date, and within an hour they had reinstated them back on the website, giving us another 10 days to order our photos(well photo cd) :j , hth Dave
Take every day as it comes!!
  • update
we did a lost photopass card form on the internet
i actually did it 3 times as i couldnt remember the exact date and time of one of our photos
anyway 3rd time lucky, they found them and are great photos,im looking into the pro photo book? the one where you use there photos
has anyone had these and are they worth the money?

Rubbish, strick to Expedia, Orbitz etc or book direct.

Florida is not the best Honeymoon place unless you're going to Clearwater or the Keys.

Thats a very generalised, sweeping statement to make!

In your opinion Florida isnt but it may be perfect for other types of people - what if the couple involved prefer that type of holiday to sitting on a beach for 2 weeks, or perhaps it holds a special place for them?

I tend to agree with you. Most people seem to think as honeymoons as being sat on an idyllic beach for 14 days straight, doing little else. Now I'd love that, but many people wouldn't. I reckon my boyfriend would much prefer Florida...you get the best of both worlds, a hectic week at the parks, then follow it up with a beach destination.
