Blackmailed over fraud, in a state, help!

I am in a real state, my ex (who I was with for all of about 5 weeks!!!) has messaged me saying that someone has set up 4 accounts in HIS name using MY address and phone number. He says its me and he's reporting me to the companies and police for fraud.

He was always at mine so I let him use my address, I didn't see the harm, so he did have about £300 of stuff delivered here!! He's saying I did it!!!! To make it worse, I had his brother staying for a bit and I found out he'd run up £600 or more (who knows!!) in random names on cards/catalogues!!! I only found out when I was given a parcel in a random name and refused it!!!! I threw him out and it split me and the ex up!!

He said all this in front of my son!!! My little kid is now worried he's going to lose his mom to prison!!!!!

My ex knows that my kid's dad is dead, he'd end up in care as we have no family!!!

I have begged him to stop this but he just keeps messaging me saying he is going through the police and the catalogue companies because the accounts have my address and number on!!!! And basically saying it was me!!! But it wasn't!!!

Now I'm terrified of the police knocking on my door to ransack my house in front of the kids and take away our laptops and phones!!!! My son is terrified of me going to prison!!!!!

What can I do? Ive told him I know he's setting me up out of revenge and he just ignores me and says it's not to do with that, that I've set up accounts!!!!

Please help...if I go to prison my son has nobody, we have no family, he only has me... its nearly xmas and he's crying himself to sleep over it!!!!! That's how nasty my ex is, he started in front of my son!!!!

I don't even know the person's name that was used along with my exs name, I have no idea what they've done as I work a lot so I'm rarely there to get post! I don't have any proof to back it up either other than my neighbour saw my ex here a fair few times!!!!

Should I get a solicitor involved just in case?

Im confident you wont go to prison and the police wont come and ransack your home.

If your ex is harrassing you then inform the police of this but keep it short.

hes literally just messaged me saying "you set up accounts in my name YOU are going down for id theft and fraud." i keep saying I havent, and he just keeps saying I have!! He's now saying that I did way more in this other name, but he won't tell me the name!!!!

i know a credit card came here because i heard him talk about it, no idea if it was just that one or what name!!!

how can they get away with blaming me!!! my son is refusing to sleep and hes normally asleep by 8! hes crying saying if the laptop is taken all the photos of his daddy are gone (theyre backed up but he's not taking this in). he wont let me leave his room, he's scared of going to school tomorrow incase the police take me!

and the worst thing is, there's nothing i can say in my defence!!! i dont know what was ordered, or when, or how. i havent had any catalogues in the post, but he let slip its 4 different companies hes complaining to, what if each company is £1000 or more!!!!

I am very confident.

The police wont just do anything on his say so, they wont just turn up and ransack your house, they will talk to you about it. As I say contact the police on the non emergency number or speak to your local pcso.

So in essence your being accused of accounts being set up in your exs name (lets call him Mr A).

I haven't read it all but is this thread not the same as the 1 from the 17th ?

yeah, and i think hes going to say i set up cards/accounts in this blokes name (his brother did it not me, i cant exactly pass for a bloke!!!), who knows how much debt there is, although it was all over a couple of weeks as i threw him out by then!

its making things worse because my best friend told me her brother bought a stolen phone and they ransacked his house while they had him in the station!!!! turns out he got let off as he didnt know it was stolen, but they still ransacked his house without him knowing!!! they didnt speak to him they just arrested him and then took him to the station and searched his house!

I find that very hard to believe.

At the vey least there's a lot more to the story than him just buying a stolen phone.

What can I do?

Contact the police and tell them that your ex is threatening you.

As Ive already said Id talk to the police or your local pcso, try the police first.

Have you read the replies on the other thread ?

yes but there were only 2, and now he is threatening to blame me for the other debt. well not threatening, hes doing it! He's refusing to tell me who the fraud is with, just that its 4 catalogues/companies. I've told him to tell me who so I can speak to them and he's refusing. He says he is dealing with the police and fraud departments at the companies.

what if i go to the police and they believe him not me? he says that nobody is going to believe me!! as the accoutns were made at my address but in his name.

im so scared... hes being so cruel, my son would have nobody if i went to prison for fraud and he knows that!!

There's no point worrying over "what if's."

I think it's more likely than not that this is just an attempt at getting back at you for dumping him and it's a complete fabrication on his part. If it is it's clearly working.

Stop worrying about it and deal with things if or when they come.
