Thanks for all getting back to me so quickly. My annual insurance policy was renewed in September for £1,300 - no previous speeding convictions. They have now updated my convictions (I received 3 points sp30) and have stated they will take a further £686.32 in a few weeks time there is also an extra £30.00 for administration charge. I hope this makes sense. My issue is ive already paid the initial £1300, I assume I cant claw this back to change insurers, so I assume im only left with the option of fighting the extra £686.32 they want me to now pay.

No of course they can't take £1,300 off you for 2 or 3 months cover.

You need to run your details through a price comparison site (or two), find a better price with someone else, then contact Admiral and find out what you will get back if you cancel the policy. Only when you have all that information will you know which option makes the best financial sense.
  • Can we get some rough indicators as to the car, its value, your age and location?

I'd add how much No Claims Bonus as well.

You bought 12 months of cover.
You've had ~2 months of cover.
At absolute best, you can expect 5/6 of the premium back, less any non-refundable fees and cancellation charges.

    In effect, they're saying your annual premium of £1,300 with a clean licence would be £1,300 + (6/5 x £686) = £1,300 + £823 = £2,123 with 1 x SP30. Which is tantamount to saying "We don't really want your business, ta."

They are perfectly within their rights to do that. They clearly viewed you as a fairly high risk driver with a clean licence, and now view you as a much higher risk.
  • well thanks for all the advice so far.
    previously clean licence,
    age 35,
    sports car
    bonus protection: none

    No no-claims?
Any claim history to go with that...? Or simply that you've not had a policy in your name in the last few years?

But that certainly won't be helping.

Also - what postcode risk? Little Snoring, or a bad area of downtown Damascus?

    sports car

My neighbour calls her Peugeot 206 cc a sports car.
If you have something like that you have been overcharged, if you have the TVR speed 12, you are getting good value.
  • no claims history, areawise where people have smashed avocado with chilli flakes, and its an alfa Romeo. to be honest the initial premium was reasonable I guess, its this extra 600 pounds which I was surprised at.

"An Alfa Romeo" covers a multitude of sins. It could be a few hundred quid of sheddy MiTo or 159, could be a diesel Stelvio, or could be an 8C.

If it really is something interesting, then you're probably better off with a specialist insurer anyway.
