    Indeed plugs are frequently referred to as plug tops. However socket outlets are never referred to as "plug sockets" - they are either one or the other, and cannot be both.

    A plug socket is a socket that a plug goes into and a socket plug is a plug that goes into a socket. What could be clearer?
