    That's true, but there were prototype hatchbacks like the Hillman Imp and Austin A40.

    Sure. And estate cars too. But the fitting of a rear wash/wipe didn't become common until hatchbacks started to take over the market. I think the first mass-production hatchback in the UK market was the Renault 4, but I can't remember if they had a RWW fitted.
    If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.

    According to google images they did...hold that thought, had a closer look and no they didn't....

    My Dad used to have a Fiesta 950 Popular ... I'm pretty sure that didn't have a RWW. (It was an option available on more expensive models at the time).

    I had a Renault 4 in around 1970. It was an early 6 volt version and a terrible car, constantly overheating with headlights like candles. It certainly didn't have a rear wash/wipe!
