New Skoda superb.
Hi all,we (the wife) took delivery of our new Skoda superb last week. Its a motability car which she uses to take me to various hospitals, clinics etc some a pretty long distance away.
It's a 1.5 petrol and we paid an extra £1100 to get the SE spec.We are delighted with the car, lots of room in the back where I must sit, very refined and wife says a joy to drive.
The morning after we received it wife and I went out,got in to go for a doctors appointment,it was a damp morning and all the windows were covered in mist.Wife started it up cleared the front windscreen and then asked "where's the switch for the back window wiper"?? It couldn't be found so she got out looked at the back window and said "do you know there's no back wiper fitted"?
Turned out after she contacted Skoda that a rear wiper on a superb hatchback is a "no cost option" but you must order it at the point of booking.
Have to say I was driving for over 40 years but any hatchback (even two of my daughters fiesta and citroens) basic though they are come with rear wipers.Skoda told my wife the dealer should have offered this "no cost option" but my own opinion is how many customers would not want a rear window wiper?
I believe it cannot be fitted as an aftermarket extra so it leaves my wife on misty mornings having to wipe the rear window with a cloth, but what is worse when it rains the rear view visibility is very poor indeed.A simple thing that has left my wife worried about driving in the wet weather..

Does it not have a heated rear screen?0 -
Maybe try this0

The Superb is a hybrid, it's a saloon shape with a hatchback boot, so not flatbacked.
Wipers generally aren't fitted to saloons because they don't suffer from water being sprayed across the rear window when travelling at speed.
Agree with using Rainex as an alternative.0 -
Totally agree with the above. It's not what you'd call a traditional hatchback rather a saloon with a hatchback tailgate and as such wont have the usual issues that hatchback faces with keeping the rear screen clear. RainX or Anglewax H2Go are the way forward.0

It does but in normal driving in the rain it's very difficult to see through it using the rear view mirror.just do not understand why a rear wiper should be a "no cost option",what reason would anyone have for not wanting it?..0 -
does Rainex not just work on forward facing glass to blow the rain off?0

aesthetics seems to be the major reason for it being omitted. https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/398350-rear-wiper-on-a-hatch-yes-or-no/
You’ll learn to cope, vans have no rear visibility. Then you’ll make sure your next car has one0 -
does Rainex not just work on forward facing glass to blow the rain off?It works on all glass. The water beads and runs off.
I have found Rain-X or equivalent very good on the front screen as the water beads and the wind blows it away. However, I have also tried it on side and rear windows and it's much less successful. The water seems to bead into tiny droplets which look like condensation, and there isn't the force of the air to blow them clear. On a cold morning, I have had to wipe them all manually with a cloth before setting off.
I used Rain-X on my motorcycle visors for many years and it transforms wet weather riding. Wouldn't be without it.If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.0 -
Ive owned a Skoda Superb for the last 3 years, there is no need for a rear wiper to be fitted.Just enjoy the car and let the climate control clear the windows.0
