You then say you think it is tacky, so don't look at it.
If you use social media, you will know if you are linked to someone, it will come up in your news-feed... it doesn't require a person to go looking -it is almost forced upon you (unless you change your settings or unfriend them).. it requires no effort to stumble across (if you are linked to a person who behaves in that manner on social media that is), Facebook, instagram etc.
You could use the same train of thought to say, if you don't like this thread, then, don't reply to it - but since when did that stop anyone LOLThe opposite of what you know...is also true0 -

They are probably just excited, their children are in those short few years where they are old enough to know what Christmas is and young enough to be mega excited about the magic bloke leaving presents in the night.
It doesn’t last long, why begrudge them sharing their joy about it?
I love this. I genuinely do. I am sure there are some parents that are genuinely excited in their reasoning for posting stuff like that on social media
But I'm not sure I am on side with it. Im not talking about the gleeful opening of presents type pictures, just a picture of piles of presents with no one in them maybe on Xmas eve....It feels to me like they are making a point of 'look how much money I have spent on my child'....
But I do wish I thought more like you Red Squirrel.

And I bet before she spent all that money she over paid her mortgage (if she has one), created an emergency fund and maxed out her ISA and pension contributions for the year :rotfl:

I would strongly advise you to get off social media altogether then if you have time/energy to get upset by pictures of other people and their "tacky present photos".
PS. I do not do this myself but I am just baffled by the negativity and pointlessness of your post.0 -

I have someone on my Facebook, we took dance lessons together as children.
She has 3 children. I swear everything she buys in December gets gift wrapped and chucked under her tree. I mean I get wrapping things like new socks and bits like that but who the heck wraps normal brand shampoo for a primary school child? (All of her children are under 8).
Things I've seen wrapped as "Christmas presents" include:
Toothpaste, shampoo, school socks, a school jumper, normal school pencils, soap... the list goes on.
I mean the children get actual gifts too but to make the pile more impressive she just adds in stuff to pad it out and it's ludicrous, she'll have them unwrapping tins of peas and carrots next.0 -
I always take a picture of our piles of presents - and my kids get lots through us and lots of family (but they know they are very lucky and some stuff is useful like clothes). BUT, I never post a picture on social media. I just like to see it all looking magical. I also take pictures of them opening a couple of presents as a record.
I’m never bothered by other people’s piles of presents and it certainly doesn’t make me feel like I need to ‘up my game’ in relation to my kids’ gifts. Having said that, if I was still a skint single parent it might make me feel a bit inadequate.
I find the posting on social media a bit pointless to be honest, but we’re all different!0 -
I don't do social media. Other than the odd email to my dad or posting on here I have chosen not to.
Social media seems mostly an opportunity to boost, be nasty to people or gauge how you are doing in comparison to others. It's more anti social media!0 -
