wallofbeans the chat box comes up (bottom right I think) when you are browsing the website after a minute or two, it does on a few websites (banks) especially if you don't log on.

    Halifax account open now.

Just to confirm as mentioned above, click I'll switch later at the first time of asking in the application. When you near the end of the application it will then ask again do you want to switch or carry on without switching, at this point I clicked switch then entered my bank details asked and sure enough I now have a bank account.

Tried that too. I didn't get asked if I wanted to switch again though. But was able to log in to my account and then set up the switch from there. And now it seems to be moving along as it should.

A glitch in the Halifax system. But a simple work around that they have no idea about!

I had the same problem opening an account with the Halifax and did eventually get it sorted after some unnecessary to-ing and fro-ing.

However, I was able to collect the Halifax bonus, ready to switch that account to NatWest for their switching bonus due in February, so it was worth the palaver involved. :)
A cunning plan, Baldrick? Whatever it was, it's got to be better than pretending to be mad; after all, who'd notice another mad person around here?.......Edmund Blackadder.

I think it's hit and miss whether you get the spinning wheel or not.

I tried 3 times and got there in the end for myself. My wife however opened an account the way I told her to and it worked the 2nd time for her, she waited 24 hours before reapplying.

Strange happenings though, I can get into internet banking straight off (logging in etc) although they said I would need to wait for an activation code. My wife however can't get access without the activation code, that's coming via the post. The only thing we did differently was I downloaded the phone banking app after logging in to the account, she downloaded the app beforehand.

There's some bumpf about now go to sign in to your account or download the app for iOS or iPhone but you'll need an activation code for that.
