Thank you ACG for your fair comments.
I certainly did not mean to offend anyone but I do feel sometimes comments can be unfairly brutal!
I don’t want an emotional stroking, I was actually hoping someone may have experienced similar, I wondered if anyone knows if solicitors do get a date from the local authority for the return of the search and basically just looking for information as to whether it sounds like the solicitor has plucked the date out of thin air so not to get my hopes up.
Unfortunately now matter how many comments tell me it’s tough and I have to wait... I KNOW THIS! I know there is absolutely nothing I can do to speed it up, Hence why I didn’t ask for ways to do so.
Anyone who isn’t emotionally involved in their sale and purchase I applaud you.
Naturally when you think all the ducks are in order and then out of the blue something that should have been done upon instruction isn’t done it is disappointing. Well to me and my family it is.

As already explained - it does not matter who you believe. Though yes, I agree the delay matters to you.

But the delay is the delay. Nothing you can do about it so knowing whowas at fault, if anyone, matters not a jot.

You'll never know what is going on elsewhere and what another party in the chain's agenda is. Solicitors cover themselves by telling all sorts of stories. They act purely on their clients instructions.

Does it matter?? Of course it matters to me! It matters because although I’m not stupid and made any plans surrounding this date, like anyone with a lot hanging on the biggest purchase of their life, a family to move and looking forward to something like this of course it MATTERS to me! I think it’s Human nature to be a bit disappointed at this stage when something should have already been done! I merely asked a question. I am aware the search needs doing, I am aware there’s nothing I can do, I am aware that quite clearly it doesn’t matter to you. So unless you have something useful or supportive to say... if it doesn’t matter then don’t comment! :T

With no answer possible except "it doesn't matter what each is saying, you'll have to wait until it happens"

HJ just didn't write that last bit in italics because it was blindingly obvious.

EDIT: I see she replied to that effect already but I'll let this stand. I think its you that's Out Of Order.

buying a house is stressful but at the same time you are not under control for everything.

Exchange will happen when it happens, good you haven't arranged anything yet as some people on here have already terminated their rental contracts e.t.c

  • When did the process start and when did the solicitor get the contract pack from the other side.

I had a case recently where it took the solicitor 6 weeks to apply for searches and the enquiries but this was because they didn't have the contract pack from the other side so were unable to do so

They don't need the contract pack to apply for searches. It just seems to be one of the many excuses solicitors use to slow down the (English) house-buying process (before we go on to why on earth they insist on getting searches from the council if they take four weeks to process them).
