Thank you for this thread its really inspiring and makes me appreciate all those champagne moments I enjoy on my lemonade budget.

I've been trying my best to reuse, upcycle and recycle plastics, paper and other unnecessary materials. As part of that I've been moving from using paper towels and paper napkins to cloth ones.

Well, I do feel quite posh :D when I'm able to use lovely fabric napkins, tablecloths and mats for dinner every day. Some are lovely vintage hand-me-downs, some I've made myself from fabric scraps that I've collected over the years.

Setting a beautiful table for dinner with my OH, candles and linen is my champagne moment of the day.

Lovely. And a great way to use fabric scraps. So much nicer than paper napkins and plastic placements.

Dine like a Duchess.;). Nice crockery, glassware, flowers.

I do, even though I live alone. Why not, I am sooooo worth it. :rotfl:

Often I set a tray, but even so it's always nicely set out. My favourite is to eat al fresco whenever I get the chance.

Right I'm off out. Tonight it's the cinema to see Mary Poppins. Then maybe a nice glass of Prosecco somewhere......

  • Wednesday I think scruffy old men say what they think so I am sure that was a genuine compliment so go you.

Siebrie that sounds like a good documentary. When we lived in a big city we didn't have problems but we moved to a beautiful but overwhelmingly white part of the country. It honestly never occurred to us, I think we are the most colourblind people you could meet. Our neighbours, both sides, didn't speak to us for years, now 21 years later they have accepted us but you always remember at the back of your mind. It is lovely here but I would rather be in a more multicultural area.

Oh yes al fresco dinning is lovely. Alas I'm in Scotland so its a rare treat. I've not thought about adding a little flower or plant arrangement, I'll definitely do that now you've suggest it even if its a wee potted succulent. I've only got an old Denby set of crockery but it's solid and appears to lasts.

Thanks for the new ideas :) Yes, it's nice to do a special meal place whether that's on tray, lap or table. It's funny what little things make our day special.

Regarding the National Trust, that's appalling. No mater how we all look on the outside, and lets face it thank goodness we're not all the same that would be so boring, there is absolutely no need for that kind of prejudice anywhere. I'm so sorry that happens to anyone :heart2:

Talking about using fabric instead of paper. I had some fabric that I cut in squares to use instead of paper hankies. The other day I was out with my son and blew my nose in one such cloth. My son looked amused and said: "is that the pillowcase you blowing your nose in?" I'd forgotten, it was his childhood pillowcase, indeed! We had a good laugh!
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

I went to see Disney's Mary Poppins Returns at Odeon Leicester Square Luxe. The film is fantasy and well drawn characters that pull you into the story telling and keep you wanting to find out what will happen next. I would give this film 10/10 :D :j

I was amazed at the sheer opulence of the cinema. The seats are luxe recliners and ultra comfortable with an attached food table with an integrated cup holder that you can swing across your lap. This was a complete champagne moment for me, as I had a £25 Odeon E-Gift Card of which I used £21 to purchase my cinema ticket online. :T:D As I have an Odeon Premier Card, I got a £2.75 discount when I was booking my ticket, so now I have the remaining £4 to use against my next Odeon cinema ticket.

There was a woman dressed as Mary Poppins and a man dressed as Jack as you approached the cinema's entrance. They were happy to pose for photos with children and adults. There was a Mary Poppins carpet as we all walked up to the entrance doors which felt very thick and luxurious under foot. :D

Good morning......just lazing at the moment. A bit tired so taking my time this morning,

Enjoyed Mary Poppins. Emily Blunt was very funny in the title role.

SUgarbaby. We went to the posh screen, they call it the Directors Hall. Very comfortable. I think a lot of cinemas are now revamping and going for a luxury experience. A long way from the fleapits of my youth....... :rotfl:

I was early and had to wait so I enjoyed a crisp glass of Prosecco at the the bar whilst I waited fir my DIL. Very nice.

After the film she had to dash home to breast feed my grandson so I did a bit of shopping. I intended to wander round a bit to look at the Christmas lights but by then it was chucking down with rain so I came home. Bought myself some eyeshadow and a new lippy.

I had two very sad pieces of news yesterday, the death of one friend in her early 60s and the serious illness of a friends husband, 71 and only just retired.

    Makes you think doesn't it.

Life is for living, our champagne moments need to be enjoyed and savoured.

No point saving things "for best". The best is NOW. This is it, its all we get.

I for one intend to make 2019 count. I am 67. Who knows how many good years I've got left.

    Time to enjoy.
  • All my Christmas spending done, presents bought for January birthdays (why did I make a habit of having babies at the beginning of January? You would think once was enough!) So now my thoughts turn to the wedding, DD getting married in spring. I've bought her dress, paid florist (will we have flowers in April or will Brexit mean they aren't getting flown in, saw a florist on TV and she said it is a worry, I can see me picking wild flowers that day.) I've paid deposit for photographer, have the money for cake. I've got my outfit. Don't want to dip into savings so setting up a new account to save towards the reception. It is nice to have something to look forward to.
