  • I was complaining to my husband recently that my socks feel too tight. I have been reading a book on sleep and read that if your socks are too tight it is bad for your body as it can hamper your lymph function, especially if you wear them at night in bed, which i do. I have replaced all my old socks with very soft fluffy ones. They are lovely and cosy!:T

Definitely a champagne moment on a lemonade budget!:A

I also thought that I bought a handheld massager (back in February last year :o) and I have never used it! I have it on charge and I will get my husband to massage me later. I woke up with a pain in my hip and thigh as I must have been sleeping awkwardly so I will see how well it works. :D

    Hello everyone.....

Well I have had a lovely week so far. Lots of sleep, gentle pottering, giving myself some beauty treatments, being a "lady wot lunches". :rotfl:

Today the joiner is here, working on my kitchen. I could do some more decluttering but can't be bothered so just having a quiet day, trying to keep warm in my sitting room........joiner has the kitchen door open and it's a cold dreich day so the sitting room is really the warmest room.

He's struggling a bit to fix some of the cabinets because they really are on their last legs. I'll say one thing for him, he's a good craftsperson and is very inventive. Once they are painted they should look ok. And it will save me ££££s on a replacement kitchen. I estimate the revamp will come in at around £1k, the bulk of that going to the joiner and decorator.

Shame I can't do more myself but I just can't manage ladder work any more. Never mind I will paint the cabinets and revamp the table and chairs myself and save money there. It will all look fab.

A smart "new" kitchen on a shoestring budget.....:rotfl:

I know I said I won't be buying many clothes this year but I picked up an amazing bargain yesterday. A gorgeous beaded cocktail dress, £1 from the chazzer.

At that price it would have been rude not to. :rotfl:
  • Morning all

A lovely day off work today.

I had planned to pop into town to do look at the Boots 70% sale and do some Chazzer shopping, but oh it is cold outside...and I have really talked myself out of it - so I have probably saved myself a fortune. I am staying in where it is warm and cosy

So instead I put a meal in the slow cooker to fsizzle away during the day, (sweet and sour chicken) not sure how it will turn out lol - and I am planning a long soak in the bath with my last remaining Christmas bath bomb, followed by an afternoon of playing my violin, well practising for this weekends performance

Champagne moments this week - sometimes I like to keep an eye on ebay - to see if they have anything that takes my fancy going cheap, and I managed to get a lovely 2nd hand skirt that I am thrilled with, for a fiver. Really chuffed, as that will make up another outfit

I feel like I wear the same outfits over and over again and want to try and focus on buying one or two second hand, separates, over the next few months, to break up the 'go to' outfits

    Have a great day y'all
    With love, POSR <3

Well done on the ebay skirt bargain.

I looked on eBay and found my usual skin peel kit, £12 instead of £25. Brand new but damaged packaging. That's fine by me. I use it once a week and a kit usually lasts about 3 months, so a nice affordable treatment at the best of times, but at less than half price it's an even better bargain. I have never looked on eBay for cosmetics or skin care products before but I will from now on.

Last day of January.......wahoo. Spring is not far away now. Already the evening are lighter.

Another one having a warm and cosy day here. I was going to go out but as it's raining and blowing a gale I decided to stay put. Save money, keep warm and just catch up, potter about, do some cooking and some yoga.

There's nothing spoiling. The shops can wait......
  • Morning all. Some very inspiring bargains have been had by some of you! I am on an eBay trawl at the moment, looking for some specific items for my trip to Palm Springs which is now....later this very month!!!

I am so excited! The workshop schedule has been released so I will be spending some time planning my week. And I found out they provide lunch most days too, so that cuts my spending right down! Also there is a gifting event where sponsors give away their items for free. I am so glad I made the choice to book onto this last year.

It's been a funny old January so far. A family issue has reared its' ugly head again, and I have made a decision to withdraw from that person entirely. Not easy as they are a close family member but I need to do it for the sake of my mental health. Work has been difficult this week, as the project I was recruited to work on is being cut back. At the moment there's no talk of me losing my job, but it's been unsettling and has given me cause to reflect. I have decided that if it comes to it, I will give myself a career break (at the grand old age of 54!) to work on my blog and see if I can make it happen. I may even consider reducing my hours in my current role as that might suit my employer and me. Although I enjoy my job, and the conditions are fabulous, it may be fate working on my behalf again. This job rescued me from a very bad previous job at exactly the right time, and has given me time to recover.

I've also had a transfer value for the defined benefit scheme I was in for four years, which is a very nice figure. I may decide to take 25% of it tax free after my next birthday, to pay off my lease car which then frees up almost £200 a month to throw at my mortgage. Or to spend on fabulous holidays....:D

I went to see 1917 last night with a friend - brilliant film and really makes you appreciate the times we now live in, difficult as they can be.

    Enjoy your weekend everyone!
  • Oh, I need a 'champagne' moment today!

Awoke yesterday to a flooded bathroom!....all sorted thankfully.

Today I am pushing my wheeled walker to the local craft shop...they have a sale on!...I shall be stocking up on bargain wool ...and embroidery thread if on offer....and hoping they will have some frames/cards marked down too!
  • My Champagne moments yesterday were going to watch the films Richard Jewell and Queen and Slim at Streatham Odeon using my Odeon Limitless card to buy the tickets. In the evening I went to my monthly Open Mic event. :D

    ODEON says...
"There is a bomb in Centennial Park. You have thirty minutes." The world is first introduced to Richard Jewell as the security guard who reports finding the device at the 1996 Atlanta bombing - his report making him a hero whose swift actions save countless lives. But within days, the law enforcement wannabe becomes the FBI's number one suspect, vilified by press and public alike, his life ripped apart.

Reaching out to independent, anti-establishment attorney Watson Bryant, Jewell staunchly professes his innocence. But Bryant finds he is out of his depth as he fights the combined powers of the FBI, GBI and APD to clear his client's name while keeping Richard from trusting the very people who are trying to destroy him

I really enjoyed this thought provoking film. Richard Jewell was a hero of the 1996 Atlanta Centennial park bombing. Within 3 days Richard finds himself bein vilified by newspapers and other media. It is shocking to see how much harassment that Richard and his Mother are subjected to before Richard with the help of his lawyer Watson Bryant is finally able to clear his name. I would give this film 10/10 :T:D

    ODEON says...

While on a forgettable first date together in Ohio, a black man and a black woman, are pulled over for a minor traffic infraction. The situation escalates, with sudden and tragic results, when the man kills the police officer in self-defense.

Terrified and in fear for their lives, the man, a retail employee, and the woman, a criminal defense lawyer, are forced to go on the run. But the incident is captured on video and goes viral, and the couple unwittingly become a symbol of trauma, terror, grief and pain for people across the country.

As they drive, these two unlikely fugitives will discover themselves and each other in the most dire and desperate of circumstances, and will forge a deep and powerful love that will reveal their shared humanity and shape the rest of their lives.

Joining a legacy of films such as Bonnie and Clyde and Thelma & Louise, Queen & Slim is a powerful, consciousness-raising love story that confronts the staggering human toll of racism and the life-shattering price of violence.

I really enjoyed this film even though it explores racism in the police department and how it can lead to tragedy. I would give this film 9/10 :D

I went to my Open Mic evening where I performed my new poem entitled The Fat Lady's Swansong which was really well received. I wrote my poem yesterday even though I was really busy as I wanted to start the new year with a new piece of creative writing. :D We had a new singer join our established group last night which was a very welcome addition, as she was really talented. :D We are all hoping that she will return to our group in the coming months.

Hello Ladies, My latest poem entitled The Fat Lady's Swansong

The fat lady looked at her reflection in her mirror and seeing all the rolls of fat around her middle, she sat on her bed and struggled not to cry

For this fat lady used to be slim a decade ago and she remembers how easy it was for her to stay slim without even having to try

But then came the years when the fat lady found herself getting bigger and she would wonder to herself why did I eat all those delicious mince pies?

But then the fat lady consoled herself with the thought that even if at times she hated her body, the men in her life found her shape very easy on their eyes

There was the man who loved to compliment her on the swinging sashay of her hips as he longingly watched her as she walked on by

There was the man who when he saw her wearing her low cut black top, would stare at her exposed chest and murmur to himself my oh my

Then there was the man who would talk eloquently about how she looked more than ten years younger and wax lyrical about her sexy lips and her beautiful eyes

The fat lady sat on her bed and out of the corner of her 'side eye' she caught another glimpse of her reflection which made her let out a loud breathy sigh

So the fat lady stood up, got dressed in her white, green and navy dress with the matching navy accessories and coat and said to herself at least now I have created for myself an air of glamour and an outward show of my skin deep beauty

Then the fat lady took a last look in the mirror and grabbed her bag and set off for her Open Mic night, to share another dose of her artistic creativity

Later that evening when it is her turn on the mic the fat lady does a performance of her new poem which is a small slice of her personal history

The fat lady stands there and feeling the support from the others as they applaud her efforts and the fat lady's misery ebbs away and all she feels now is glee

Finally the fat lady realises that slim or fat, makes no odds, for a writer she will always be, so the fat lady smiles at her audience, reinforcing to herself, I am in fact happy just being me
