Visually inspect all MAF sensor wiring and connectors to make sure they are intact, not frayed, broken, routed too close to ignition wires/coils, relays, motors, etc. Visually inspect for any obvious air leaks in the air intake system Visually *closely* inspect the MAF sensor wires or film to see if you can see contamination such as dirt, dust, oil, etc. If the air filter is dirty, replace it with a new original equipment filter from the dealer Carefully clean the MAF using MAF cleaner spray is generally a good DIY friendly diagnostic/repair step If the air intake system has a mesh in it, make sure that is also clean (VWs mainly) Loss of vacuum to the MAP sensor can trigger this DTC A low minimum air rate through the sensor bore may cause this DTC to set at idle or during deceleration. Inspect for any vacuum leaks downstream of the MAF sensor. Use a scan tool to monitor real-time sensor values from the MAF sensor, O2 sensors, etc. Check for Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) for your particular make/model in case of known issues on your vehicle The barometric pressure (BARO) that is used in order to calculate the predicted MAF value is initially based on the MAP sensor at key ON. A high resistance on the ground circuit of the MAP sensor can cause this DTC to set If you do need to replace the MAF sensor, we recommend using an original equipment OEM one from the manufacturer rather than buying an aftermarket part.

Thanks for the reply but i didnt think a code for air flow would stop the car from starting

You're right it shouldn't do. At worst it should limit how high you can rev the engine and reduce power.

A code from anything won't stop the car starting, but a fault in the air flow system may well do, the code doesn't appear for no reason, it just gives you and idea of where to start looking eg no point checking the spare wheel at this time.

    Which one?
  • p0100 Is the circuit or wiring for air flow some part of the MAF sensor has produced a high voltage side or low voltage side fault.
From experience, this could be a faulty MAF module highly likely. faulty MAF Connector likely (plastic connector gets repeated hot and cold cycles it goes brittles and degrades falls appart and causes wires to touch creating a short circuit, faulty wiring upto fuse control box possible as wires rub against objects that are not protects chaffing happens through the wires jackets and the live wire goes to ground on metal, faulty fuse control box they can go faulty ive replace a few through corrosion if the rubber cap seal is thrown away lost or degraded and moisture is allowed into the box and corrode the connectors and wires.

Second other most likely culprit could be the boost pressure solenoid valve. make sure this is works and is good and all connectors with it too are not shorted or broken or fuse relays blown.

It sounds like you have a fuel issue, you said it trying to start but dosent, the things i would do to narrow it down is change the fuel filter cheap and easy, next i would do a quick fuel pressure check at the fuel rail and see what psi im getting, if all good i would check injectors spray some easy start dow the air box after the air fuel sensor and see if it starts then if it does then you have a fuel problem, if not look for fuel leaks, air leaks etc.....

No one can tell you what the problem is with your car on a forum without doing tests, we can point you in the right direction but thats all

hope you get it sorted keep us posted

Does the filter look ok its not falling to bits or anything?, you did check before you ordered one, as not to waste money barking up the wrong tree because someone mentioned it in a forum.

To be honest a filter that's clogged that badly as to cause no start is as rare as winning the lottery!

You had a code for P0100 and no fuel trouble codes, the cars telling you where to look for your issue This P0100 diagnostic trouble code (DTC) means that there is a detected problem with the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor or circuit
