Return orange livebox or pay £100

  • Just to resurrect an old thread to post that they are still after £100 for their boxes if you can't return them.

I replaced my mum's Orange box when it was knackered by a storm. The replacement ADSL internal card cost £25 or so. I didn't even think about keeping the box as it was broken, so why would I keep it?

My mum has just left Orange and they want £100 which is a disgraceful amount for their old piece of tat box even if it was working. About 5-6 times what it's worth, if I'm being generous.

So I save Orange support any hassle by fixing it myself, buy a new box saving them any effort, and this is how they repay me. Some customer service eh?
  • To follow up.

We closed our Orange Broadband account in 2005 and changed to BT.

We had never used the Live Box as I used my own router.

God knows where the Live Box is now...it was in a draw somewhere but damned if I can find it.

Got home from work yesterday to find a letter from orange saying, sorry that you are leaving us but please return you live box in the enclosed bag...or else we'll stiff you for £100  !!

Wow! Guess we'll have to pay?
  • Its always a good idea to check the original contract signed or T&C's before throwing any equipment away, regardless of whether it is broken or not. Unless you are 100% sure it wasn't on a rental type agreement for taking the service. I always keep my equipment...a bit of a hoarder I know, but its times like these that I'm glad I do. I know some companies do keep track of serial no's on equipment sent out, just to be sure any repaired jobs are for authorised equipment and not for one bought down the market. :)

I'm glad this thread was bumped, I left Orange in September, they have yet to ask for the livebox back. The other day my wife asked if we should hang on to the box or dump it, fortunately I said hang on to it.
  • I am right in thinking back in 2004 when i got a Livebox from wanadoo you paid for the box and renting didnt start till about 2006. They have just asked for mine back after i switched to the new Home select package and they sent me a new Siemens router.

You will need to check your contract.
    Gone ... or have I?
  • I was having loads of trouble with livebox and they sent me another one, and a free post bag - guy on phone said that send back the faulty one once all probs resolved - this took months and by then I had forgotten about the 2nd live box. Never used and is still in cupboard !!

    p;)
