Return orange livebox or pay £100

I changed to BT internet a couple of months ago from orange.
Today I have had a pre-paid bag to return the live box, or I have to pay them £100.
I have thrown it away!!!! I didnt' know I had to return it to them and it didn't work anyway which is why I changed in the first place.
Should I say I've already sent it or just pay £100, whcih i don't have.
Any ideas please?
Thank-you

Surely a live box is a live box? They are being pretty petty if they get one back and quibble over whether its the same one!!Good Enough Club member number 27(2) AND I got me a stalkee!

It was in the contract that I signed with wanadoo that the livebox was their property. If the heap of s*** actually worked maybe I wouldn't be going elsewhere as well.£2 coin/ £460

They better not try this with me. We got our livebox when you had to pay for it (not rent it from Wanadoo/Orange) so the Livebox is our property. We switched to o2 last week.0
