Freddie_Snowbits - the date on the letter was 28th May so if that's correct they've had my item for almost 3 weeks.

custardy - sorry that you seem to be taking my problem with Royal Mail personally for some reason. I don't think there's any need to be rude and tell me to "get used to it", this is a vent board so I'm just having my little vent, it's not like I'm attacking you personally because you used to be a postman.

mazza111 - where can you pay online? At this stage I'm just sodding desperate to get that parcel in time so I'll pay the charge if I have to and argue afterwards. I've looked on the Royal Mail site but can't find anything. Yes they sent a letter, it's a printed form (with appalling spelling and grammar, half of it doesn't make sense!) with the charges, reference number and name/address filled in by hand, popped in a hand-addresses envelope. Definitely not a card.

Thanks! The 'date on the card' drop down box doesn't go back far enough, only goes back to June 1st... it says if the date is longer ago than that they'll have sent it back :( I think I'm going to have to take a day off work and go in to find out. I can't pay the charge online just to find out my parcel isn't even in the country anymore.

If they are sending a letter then something is very wrong in your local office
this is not the way charges should be handled and even more so customs charges

Totally agree with custardly here. This has not been handled properly at all. A grey card, around the same size of the "sorry you were out" cards should be used, dated, named, addressed and the charge should be filled in, along with a box to check whether it's an underpaid item or a customs charge. Seems there is something seriously wrong in your delivery office.

I'm actually giggling about what u said about the spelling and grammar. Every poster that's made by RM seems to have an error in it. We play spot the error in our office. We've had the "you're" instead of "your" Colleage instead of Colleague.

It does sound typical Royal Mail :rotfl:

Is it possible you can get down to the delivery office today? Most of them open for a short period on a Saturday morning, although I believe this is to be extended soon.

In my old office they put up a sign stating "anyone defacing the massage board would be diciplened"
the irony was lost on them, as the guys used to correct the spelling/grammer on the board
