threat of court by purchaser

A friend sold her house 6 months ago. When she moved out she left several new unopened packs of flooring (to match what was in the living room) new packs of tiles to match wall/floors of kitchen, hall and bathrooms, and new unused kitchen units and doors for the current kitchen and wallpaper and paint that matched the current decor up in the attic. It was about 5 medium cardboard boxes in total. Also there were two storage units (empty) in the garage. As the new owner is "buy to let" the seller thought that these items would be of use in case the tenants damaged any flooring/walls or kitchen units in the future. The new owner had had all garden plants and trees removed and all this was put into two skips (his choice). Now, after 6 months he is saying he wants £1200 to remove the "rubbish" she left in the attic that he had to pay someone (bogus invoice) to remove, and that her "rubbish" filled said two skips. It was all good stuff, new and usable, not rubbish and she thought she was doing him a favour. It was actually the garden stuff that went in the skips. Where does she stand ?

Did the vendor state they would leave these items and say what they were so the buyer would know they might be useful?

    Ignore.

It won't go to court and if it does she'll simply explain she left flooring/kitchen etc accessories.

There's a lots of ****x in the world!
  • pretty obvious they could be useful I would have thought. I would have been happy if my seller had left me stuff like that.

Some ingenious people have figured out that you can earn a lot of money by sending the occasional scary sounding letter and threatening people with court.

Put it in the bin and stop worrying about it.

There can't be many who haven't done similarly by the time they're middle-aged; even the magistrates among us.

    Ignore.

Typical BTL investor; stupid money-gouging stunts all because BTL's not as lucrative as it was.

We bought a bungalow some years ago. Sitting in the attic were bathroom tiles, kitchen tiles, paint, matching wallpaper and probably a few other things I can't remember. In the kitchen there was a honemade cake, a tray of primulae and a kitchen clock tastefully moulded in the shape of a teapot ;).

We refurbed the kitchen and bungalow and put new flooring down and when we sold it we left any tiles and flooring leftover.

We thought everybody did that:rotfl: Seems you can't please some people

Ps we still have the teapot clock

Get one of those toy children’s cheque books and write them a lovely cheque in crayon.

    And then ignore.
  • Thank you for your response. To make matters worse she also left him a washer/dryer worth about £500 in the kitchen as a good will gesture. She was moving as her husband died a few months before, and I think he assumes she is vunerable and will pay up ! There were 7 medium sized boxes in total in the attic and he says it took 3 men 2 days (48 hours in total) to remove said 7 boxes. There are some horrible people out there:(
