Engine Refurbished...or not?
Comments

Hi all.
I have an ongoing issue with my Vauxhall insignia; it is overheating once I have driven it for around 45 mins or driven a bit harder (eg hills)
It has had a new radiator and expansion tank by Vauxhall and they couldn't diagnose the issue.
Another garage has done a pressure test and combustion test with no issues seen...
I haven't spoken to them (they sent a video) yet but I think this may have been done without getting to the operating temp/revved to replicate the overheating issue.
Any ideas anyone? Thermostat is apparently working ok and water pump circulating coolant.
Is there a chance that the water pump is not working as efficiently at the time the engine needs it to? If so how can this be diagnosed?
The heater in the car is very hot too.

Compression tests and pressure tests don't have to be done with the engine hot.
Water pump is driven by the cambelt so it will always run at a percentage of whatever speed the engine is running at.
i can understand your frustration as the cooling system isn't that complicated. Unfortunately without hands on and doing diagnosis from the start it is hard to give a definite answer on a forum. And unfortunately many mechanics today seem to be useless when it comes to diagnosing issues.
I take it the cooling fan on the radiator is working as it should? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
And the thermostat was tested properly?0

Yes a bit of a coincidence that a second engine has the same problem . . Some under-fuelling or ignition timing fault?0

Im calling head gasket as no else has even thought of it and posted it. If your fire rings are making a good seal around the pitons combustion chamber, the compression test will remain unaffected, as theres no loss in compression around the combustion then we look onto others thins such water seals my gues a seal has broken and its leaking down the side or back of the block, or leaking down the exhaust side under cover out of sight and burning off so no patch on the floor.0
