The engine number should be on the V5. Someone who is familiar with that engine should be able to find the engine number stamped on it somewhere.

There are refurbished engines and "refurbished" ones. Properly refurbishing means stripping the engine down to a pile of bits, throwing away and replacing anything that looks even a little bit damaged or worn, then building it back up again. Whereas "refurbishing" means buying an engine from a scrap yard and hosing it down with a jet wash.

This is what they have told me was done:

In respect of the engine age/mileage your engine has been reconditioned not replaced therefore it is equivalent to a new zero mile engine.

In regards to the coolant level if it were to go down more than is usual then by all means do bring it back to us and we will investigate this.

In regards to the oil sump plug we will recondition parts where possible as stated therefore the plug may have some signs of wear as it would have been used from your original engine.

All gaskets would be new so there should not be any leaks.

Finally the remanufacture/reconditioning of an engine does consist of

    1) The Engine is stripped to component level and put into a high
pressure parts cleanser at high temperature with abrasive chemicals removing all carbon deposits, debris and coking from previous failures returning the components to a "new" metal condition.

    2) The Cylinder Block is re-honed and or re-bored.

    3) Pistons and or Rings are changed

    4) Connecting Rods are re-honed.

    5) The Crankshaft is polished and/or reground.

    6) The main and big end bearing are replaced.

    7) Oil Pump is reconditioned or replaced for new.

    8) The Cylinder Head is then stripped down and checked for wear,
cracks and for trueness then pressure tested and resurfaced as
    necessary.

    9) Valve guides are checked for wear and replaced as necessary, valve seats are cut.

    10) New/re-faced valves are lapped into the Cylinder-head and vacuum tested.

    11) The Camshaft is checked for wear and re-polished if required.

    12) Timing Chain Kit,/ Timing belt kit are replaced Brand New

    13) Complete New Head Gas Kit Replaced

    14) The engine is then reassembled with new gaskets and seals.

The benefits of remanufacture-Remanufactured engine means zero mileage -No need to change engine numbers with the DVLA -All engines fitted in our own workshops -Our factory remanufacture test certified engines are of superior quality
to used engines out of a scrap yard -Fast turn around

    "Bare" engine

    > no external parts included.

    > All external parts will be transferred from your old engine to the
replacement unit Free inspection and report on all external parts to be transferred.

we can confirm that your engine was rebuilt according to the above.

Sounds like you almost certainly have been ripped off in my opinion.

You probably have an engine from a Scrap car that has been Jet washed at best.

The explanations sound like a load of bull.

These outfits are notoriously difficult to get money out of in these situations.

They have a reputation for closing one as the claims start to mount.

If they do continue trading it can be difficult to find sufficient assets that the company owes.

I think you must explore as many avenues with the company that fitted the engine as possible as court will cost money as no doubt enforcement will cost a fortune to potentially get knowwhere.

May a nuisance of yourself at the branch, unhappy customers around new customers does not look good.

Out of interest where are they located ?

It still doesn't sound like you (or Vauxhall) have checked the engine number.

They said they would need to remove the DPF etc and that is extra cost....plus this will only prove that this engine is different to the original - the 'specialist' will no doubt say that the engine could have been changed since....

ongoing issue with my insignia....overheats when driven for more than 30mins/or harder eg uphill

it has a new radiator and expansion tank, told water pump is working...no smokey exhaust or milky oil...heater working - although it seems to get warmer more quickly and the heater when on high it is very hot?

probably gonna have to take it for a 2nd opinion but wondered if any ideas? thanks

    Stuck thermostat not opening fully?

(Although they should fail 'open' to prevent this)

is the fan working does it cut in and out to control the engine temp check that it maynot be working
People are caught up in an egotistic artificial rat race to display a false image to society. We want the biggest house, fanciest car, and we don't mind paying the sky high mortgage to put up that show. We sacrifice our biggest assets our health and time, We feel happy when we see people look up to us and see how successful we are”

Do not take the thermostat out and leave it out as some engines have a by-pass thermostat and it needs to be in,you could take it out and put it in a pan of boiling water to see if it functioning.

if it was stuck closed would the heater in my car work - and if so would that be why the heater is very hot ie it isnt being cooled/ regulated?
