Hi Sue uu can I join please. The MSE site helped me clear my mortgage 10 years early a few years ago. I feel the forums help keep you focused on things - virtual friends never judge. I am not saving for anything in particular, but aim to save something everyday - even if it’s a penny. I am hoping to cut down on my alcohol intake so I think if I were to save the money that I were to spend on that both my purse and health should benefit. I have a container ready. Also I have noticed that in the last year I have been using ‘contactless’ for purchases on my debit card - it’s amazing how quick you get through your money - I plan to draw a set amount of cash out every week and any change left each week will go into my sealed pot, it will also encourage me to think of ways of saving money on spends that could also go into the pot. I don’t spend much money over the Christmas period - as I give library books as gifts and email Christmas messages - but I alway gift to a animal sanctuary, age concern and a homeless charity.
Hope to her from you soon

Impressive how much you are all able to save. I am guessing a lot of people on here use cash primarily rather than cards. I don't tend to use much cash- so don't tend to get much unallocated change. Only times I use cash are weekly take away (£25 budgeted- actually amount varies between £23 and £25 depending on what I get and where from- yesterday's for example was £24.30) Quiz night a pub (£15 budgeted- 2 drinks each plus taxi- DB (dearly beloved) pays same (or more if he has an extra drink)) = £40- On average I get £0.80 from quiz change and £1.20 from takeaway, which go to pay window cleaner. Window cleaner is £8 every 4 weeks. I mainly use my card for spending. I get paid weekly and do put aside any unspent money in my spending bank account aside into savings at the end of the week (though apparently that doesn't count for sealed pot...…). Still challenges like this inspire me not to waste money, to think before I spend, to keep an eye on where I can buy what I need for less. I won't officially join because I would not be posting every week with an update as I would not have anything to add every week.

I'm so glad I found this thread. I've been doing something similar for a while with my spare change.

If it's not too late I'd love to join :) Can't wait for end of Oct next year and see how much I've saved!

You're most welcome to join us, scottiedog SPC No 036, datlex SPC No 037 and Aggie_88 SPC No 038. A very warm welcome to you. :grinheart Have fun saving and enjoying the chat on the thread, it motivates us all. You'll find your number on the the 2nd post of page 1. Please read through post 1 as it'll let you know exactly what to do with the challenge. PS. We empty our pots and declare our savings in October, please make a note of this year's date: 31st Oct 2019.

Please also subscribe to the thread by clicking on "Thread Tools" (lower green bar) and clicking "Subscribe to this thread"...or you may lose us! To put your SPC No on, go to "Quick Links" (right side of top green bar), click and then click on "Edit Signature" and you're away. ;)

*Please pop your number on your sig, it really helps me.

-scottiedog - You sound extremely sensible with your cash, little wonder that with MSE's help you finished your mortgage so quickly, congratulations!!!! :T You're right about the incentive you get too, and you'll get plenty by coming to the thread on a regular basis. You've got it all worked out, marvellous!! :D It doesn't matter that you've nothing planned to spend your savings on, the main thing is that you'll have money behind you, which will be brilliant!! Good luck to you! :j

datlex - Another very shrewd spender! :D If memory serves me correctly I say on the 1st post that money can't be paid directly from the bank into our pots, but you're saying that you get paid weekly and put aside any unspent money in a savings bank, in which case you're perfectly ok doing that as, to my mind, it's no different than saving in a Christmas Club. ;) So by all means go ahead and include it when you declare in October!! :D It's wonderful to hear that challenges such as SPC encourage folk so much! :j I'll PM this to you so you can join us officially.

Aggie_88 This seems the perfect challenge for you! :dance:All the very best to you! :D

A very Happy Sunday to you, SPCers!! I hope you're all enjoying a lovely, peaceful (or otherwise) day.
To all those members who may be poorly or low in spirit, I hope you get well soon. Here are best wishes and {{{hugs}}} to you. :grinheart

It's good to hear your pleased with your new No, siju, and well done with the saving! :D

Still having the issue that i dont really use much cash but managed to put 60p out of my £3 cash i had for the weeks canteen nibbles.
I suppose it will all add up come next october :)

Ahhh but Raggle1, dare I say you could have taken nibbles from home, and ...potted ALL that £3?!!! :dance:Just a thought, but it would also make the nibbles cheaper! ;) Like you say though, it'll definitely come to a fair bit by October. :D

Many thanks ETO, he's a real little darling! :) Well done in saving the £1, that and the £10 from the other day had given you a good start ... keep it going! :j

It's great to hear you also are pleased with the new No you have, 32b3, brilliant. :D Good work with your savings and have a lovely Sunday!

Yet another happy with the promotion in their SPC No then, Vicky! :D
It sounds as if you have a fair way to go in getting better too, but I hope it's not long. However, if you will try hurdling over walls...! ;) Seriously Vicky, get well soon! :D
    Hi, Sue,

Can I please rejoin again for this coming year? Also, would prefer to keep my old number - bear of little brain here has just managed to learn it....

Congratulations on the little one - how exciting!

Manythanksindeed CapricornLass, he'sbeautiful! :) Don't worry as there's never any need to rejoin. However, I'm really sorry but I'll have to give you a lower number as I doubt we'll reach to where you were last time. So sorry, but your new No is 035, not too difficult to remember eh and far luckier than the old'n! ;) Please swap it over with your old one for me on your siggy, thanks so much. :D

Welcome home Dizzy Imp!!! :hello: It's lovely seeing your name appear again, but don't worry your still in and now at...034! :D Please swap it over on your siggy please. As Vicky says SPC 11 will go on for a little while yet, it wouldn't be the first time that I've not given the Grand Total out after Christmas, not this time though!! :(

Thanks for informing Dizzy, Vicky, that earns you another gold star. :staradmin

Excellent apricity!!! :j It's surprising how those 20ps can add up over a year. ;)

£9.40 into the pot post shopping yesterday!!

A NOTICE TO ALL OLD TIMERS:
Some of you may have noticed that ALL members are now on the one Members List as soooo many have not returned. I've left a lot of the numbers open, so if any higher numbered members wish to have one (not to choose) of the open ones please say and I'll be glad to swap you.

    Thanks a lot folks.

Have a super Sunday, folks, and keep saving!!
    Sue

Opening date for SPC 12 will be 31st October 2019

Anyone wishing to join us, it's NEVER too late, so please just ask, you'll be made very welcome.

Hi datlex, Don't let limited cash spends put you off from joining... i too mainly do my purchases with card transaction with just a bit of cash in my purse each week. I also look at some of the amounts of cash being potted and think how much(!) it is comparison to my own few bits of bronze/silver potting each week. But i take inspiration from the chats and hope that the surprise of opening next year will be good even with the bits i save (as i don't track mine). An alternative or compliment to this challenge is the virtual sealed pot challenge which i intend on joining when it restarts in Jan 19...

    virtual sealed pot sounds good.
Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.

Thank you for my new star :staradmin Sue!

Took £5 to the rugby today and came back with 60p in change. Duly potted! My tin is beginning to sound really quite satisfying! A good solid jangle, not the pathetic jingle at the beginning of the month. :j :j

  • Emptied the change out of my purse today and potted £2.50.

Hope everyone has had a good weekend. Christmas shopping is going well, going to do a bit more tomorrow evening with my Mum, and on Tuesday we're having a fence post replaced which we could do without (and the fence is only 2 years old) but better to get it done before it goes altogether and/or takes the fence panels with it. This is by far the cheapest option and safest, with the dog to consider. It'll soon be free rent week though so we'll kind-of get it back that way.

I hadn't realised that money taken from the bank into a savings pot could be counted so I'll only be adding the money put into the sealed pot (not the money for the op) It's being drawn out of the bank so we won't spend it on 'stuff'.
We're off to Bonnie Scotland for a few days tomorrow, hopefully we won't spend all our holiday money and that will be going into the pot. Going to Glasgow for the Christmas Market and hoeing to catcch up with my cousing. A trip to Edinburgh and hopefully one to Loch Lomond Hope the weather's better than the forecast!

    Oh well its stuck now!

I have some coins in my purse, will transfer them to my coin purse so that I don't spend them then I will add them to my totals later on.
