Scottish Power bills increasing

I got fed-up with them.
We had our boiler, radiators and pipework replaced at the start of the year so my energy bills were dropping quite a bit. I'd only waited long enough to get a good idea of my usage.
About 3 months ago I had notification my direct debit was being reduced, then another within a week saying it was going up.
When I received notification both my gas and electric would be going up by £40 each I switched.
Had a couple of calls once I started the switch process and the second one was annoying as the person wouldn't accept that I was leaving, and I would not tell them how much I was saving with the new provider so they could see if they could do better.
I told them that if they could do an equivalent rate why did they tell me they were increasing my bill by £80?
I was getting really irritated at this point and trying to keep my temper, when this individual said I should be aware all their calls were recorded. I told him I didn't care if they were as I'm leaving.
I've had the refund from them for the credit in my energy account.
I'd done half a dozen comparisons via various sites and Scottish Power didn't get into the top 10 in any of them.
They will never be in the top ten, they don’t need to be, although, I could save a bit,,by a switch from them and back using MSM, but, blow that game, if I switch ,I switch.
We wanted competition, and that’s what we have, maybes too many now , the number going bust.
So Energy “are my best quote as of yesterday, whoever they are, cannot find any reviews on site about them!
It changes daily, surely that cannot truly reflect the market ?
I want peace of mind, my provider is going to be around for a while, and will pay a bit more for that peace of mind, not too much though :-)0 -
It seems to be SPs recent way of doing business, hoping that you are averse to moving. Back in Jan when my fix was finishing the best fix they would offer was doubling the standing charge for both fuels to 40p per day & my annual bill would be going up by over 40%.
Just before the cooling off period finished they offered me a much better rate that would have been less than 10% increase. I told them that after their attempt at ripping me off I wouldn't touch them with a disinfected barge pole.0 -

I reckon similar. It is apparent to me at least that retention deals apply to Scottish Power. In my case this has been a £50 sweetener if I sign up to another fixed tariff. In the past this has been a one year fix but this year it appears to be a two-year fix. This sweetener comes in when the present fixed tariff is coming to an end.
This year for renewals there isn't much very competition for Scottish Power in my area: The cheapest tariff they are offering is £63 more per year than the current tariff which ends on 31st December 2018. The competition is NPower which is £48 more per year. Suppliers which offer WHD is required.0 -

All you got to do is ask them - they can either say yes or no.
You may be able to negotiate what others can't and others might get something that you won't get. However unless you ask them yourself you'll never knowNever under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -
Aside from the rather peculiar situation of transfering tariffs via a comparison site that pays cashback (e.g. for a collective tariff only offered via comparison sites), why would any supplier pay a 'loyalty payment' for you to remain their customer?
Any supplier who can afford to to that must be overcharging from the outset, and I'd prefer they simply reduced the price of their tariff.
Most suppliers rip off such loyal customers.
Don't get too entranced with WHD. WHD is worth £140 per year to those that entitled to it. But if you can save over £140 by switching to a cheaper supplier/tariff that does not offer WHD, then surely that is the better financial solution.

Thanks but WHD makes a huge difference to my annual bill - at least 33% - so I need to ensure that any savings by changing suppliers covers this - which it doesn't - I have used the comparison and found just one (and that was not fixed) which saved just 70p per week !0
