Scottish Power bills increasing

To be honest I think DD is probably not the way to go for you.
As a very low user (I use that in under 3 months (gas/elec)). The "computer" will push you towards a higher payment.
Do you submit reads every month? That would possibly counter that.
Have you been with the supplier for years? Again that would also likely counter that (combined with the above).
Or just go on quarterly billing and open yourself a saving account to build up over summer. (your current credit seems enough for the moment given your usage).
Also be aware that prices have incresed about 20% in the last year. So your estimate will be off (when does your deal end?).
I believe that SP require payment by DD on my tariff (help beat cancer fixed price April 2020)
I have been with SP for at least 8 years (primarily because of WHD)
And Yes - I submit readings monthly0 -
Reading between the lines of my own Scottish Power account in my case they are calculating over the next 12 months which includes my current fixed and the variable tariff I will be transferred to if I don't fix when my current fix ends in December 2018.
For example MSE CEC calculates my monthly payment as £38.00p for my current fix over 12 months but my direct debit which SP has calculated is £57.64 and that agrees with uSwitch which also calculates the cost over the next 12 months which includes the fix and the default variable tariff.
*Incidentally, it is also possible to have MSE CEC calculate the cost over the next 12 months which includes transfer to the default variable tariff.0 -

Suppliers and PCWs are following an Ofgem-mandated methodology based on a rolling 12 months cost projection. MSE CEC also shows a ‘better’ comparison based on 12 months on present tariff compared to 12 months on a list of tariffs. But they never include WHD !!
Personally, I cannot see any advantage in them doing so as it wouldn’t change the best deal. In my opinion, it would just complicate further an already complicated website. PCWs have no idea whether the user is core WHD; part of the WHD broader group, or just a standard consumer. If they include the WHD then why not the Winter Fuel Allowance, or cashback from competitor PCWs or cashback sites. PCWs will never suit everyone which is why I use a simple spreadsheet which gives me the option of playing around with estimated annual consumptions; (eg, does the cheapest supplier/tariff change if it is a cold Winter.)This is a system account and does not represent a real person. I get an email every three months from Scottish Power asking to submit my readings within seven days or they will estimate my usage, I always submit the readings on receipt of the email, they then calculate the bill and give me a breakdown while on line, they give a new amount for the DD but give the choice of adjusting the DD to the new figure or keeping at the present figure, all while logged into my account.0

Yes but extremely low users (like myself) who also are entitled to WHD - it makes a huge difference to whom to use as a supplier - not all suppliers offer WHD ..
I agree that there are way too many tariff options available from suppliers.0 -

I give my readings monthly0 -
- I'm £326 overpaid [credit balance +] @ Nov '18 and happy to be so
- I put meter readings in every 4-6 weeks automatically
- my CAC [annual consumption÷12≈] monthly payment
- so I just leave it to my provider, it works ± just fine
Everyone should put their own meter reads in, use the online account etc. Core group will already have been written to [and automated payment] by the DWP. Broader group take their chances.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion.
