    - I'm £326 overpaid [credit balance +] @ Nov '18 and happy to be so
    - I put meter readings in every 4-6 weeks automatically
    - my CAC [annual consumption÷12≈] monthly payment
    - so I just leave it to my provider, it works ± just fine

Everyone should put their own meter reads in, use the online account etc. Core group will already have been written to [and automated payment] by the DWP. Broader group take their chances.
Been with them 20 years and no bother.
My fix is up dec 18.
I am regularly as much as £300 in debit with them , I was this year after last winter, but they never alter my DD, which is £83 pm,as I nearly always come into credit about sept, which I am now.
I submit readings online every month when DD is due,and let them do it.
    Suits me.
Debating whether to switch or not anytime soon .
    Not on Whd

Yes but extremely low users (like myself) who also are entitled to WHD - it makes a huge difference to whom to use as a supplier - not all suppliers offer WHD ..
I agree that there are way too many tariff options available from suppliers.

Things which will never be taken into account. So you are always going to build up credit. However it's not lost money. So either accept it or go to a non DD tarrif.

And do consider moving from SP. I am with them currently and with their nonsence new rating after my fix expires in Dec I am considering moving to my employer! And that is not a popular domestic option (are any of them?) But if it's cheaper and i can email the managers of anyone who causes issues!

I'm guessing that in some cases a lower tariff would actually be better than staying with a compnay that pays the WHD.

So it might be worth putting some effort into looking for a cheaper tariff to see if you might be better off.
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers

Correct. But such a tariff doesn't exist in my region for the energy consumption. It would have to be a saving over the present tariff of over £140 per year to be effective. It's pretty easy to compare on MSE CEC by enabling or disabling the WHD filter on the left of the screen.

A better way is to possibly save money by not having a dual fuel tariff and having separate suppliers for gas and electricity because WHD is only payable for electricity. Again in my case there is a saving in doing this but that is negligible because dual fuel tariffs are cheaper due to the discount.

I manage energy for an elderly relative who is in the WHD core group.

Thanks - hadn't realised/thought about the WHD being on electricity alone !!

Using CEC - there is only one tariff to beat my present (with WHD applied) (SP Help Beat Cancer fixed saver April 2020 online) and that is UTILITA smart energy * VARIABLE* - saving £30pa
Which - I have never heard of - don't trust fly by nights and in any case - is variable - so could double by April 2020 - So I will stick with my tariff

Ha you noticed my habit of typing faster than I can think.

    Repalce rating with prices.

As in SP have gone well up.

Though did a check today on my employers are more. :-( So unless that changes in the next couple of weeks!

Maybe time for a punt at the silly end of the market! (As in they can have issues in general and issues if too many people use them and they don't stop accepting customers (it all costs you know)).

    I got fed-up with them.

We had our boiler, radiators and pipework replaced at the start of the year so my energy bills were dropping quite a bit. I'd only waited long enough to get a good idea of my usage.

About 3 months ago I had notification my direct debit was being reduced, then another within a week saying it was going up.

When I received notification both my gas and electric would be going up by £40 each I switched.

Had a couple of calls once I started the switch process and the second one was annoying as the person wouldn't accept that I was leaving, and I would not tell them how much I was saving with the new provider so they could see if they could do better.

I told them that if they could do an equivalent rate why did they tell me they were increasing my bill by £80?

I was getting really irritated at this point and trying to keep my temper, when this individual said I should be aware all their calls were recorded. I told him I didn't care if they were as I'm leaving.

I've had the refund from them for the credit in my energy account.

I'd done half a dozen comparisons via various sites and Scottish Power didn't get into the top 10 in any of them.

Yes, they have gone up with a bang, compared to most.
Like you, I’m looking at others, me being with them so long, I can save a bit, £100+ BUT, it will be a one time largish save, after that it will be coppers, done it before !
The big boys do not only have the majority of the market, they produce and sell the energy to the small boys, and so control the price difference.
    They still control the market.
After a fix, we only have to play catch-up every time, so it becomes a chore, and a chance.
Some/most of the reviews I read every day, don’t encourage me to take a punt:eek:
SP have had their wooden spoon often enough in the past, still do with some, I have had no bother, but, I give a reading and pay my bill, that,s all one should need to do.
If I don’t move, their two year fix is probably what I will go for, then get another huge hike! kicking the can down the road .
You pays your money, you takes your chance.
Got a few weeks yet, a lot can happen in a that time :)
