Shock horror: The tracking's out AND there's a wheelbearing needs doing...
Perhaps clonking it against the kerb since purchase has been the cause of both?0 -

Clipping a kerb or two could easily cause the tracking issue.
The wheel bearing i'd say was simple wear and tear on a 9 year old car.0 -
Blimey things got a bit out of hand.
Taking everything on board, lots of lessons learnt, still not happy that the selling garage couldn't be bothered to answer me even if it's a what do you expect on a 9 year old car. I will take that into account on my reviews.
Yes I did read the MOT notes before buying to answer someone's question.
No it hasn't bumped a curb since we bought it and I did check all the tyres before buying and there were no signs of abnormal wear, it's only done 700 miles since we had it and the garage who put new tyres on it said the tracking was miles out, hopefully that is now sorted.
We are booking it into another garage for a second opinion so hopefully we can put this one behind us.0 -
I have got a 2004 car in perfect condition. Out of interest I looked at the value from webuyanycar. £300. On ebay there were a lot listed. The private sellers all listed numerous faults and they were sold for about £500. The dealer cars had no faults whatsoever listed and were sold for £1500 to £2500. I would think it unlikely that the dealers have 'better cars'. It doesn't seem to make sense to buy from a dealer. At least buying privately you only pay a 1/3 to a 1/5 of the price and you know what faults they have. The dealers won't sort any problems out and sell useless warranties that don't cover anything. What is the point of them? I would buy privately every time.0

I did not find any increase in noise when turning with my wheel bearing, it was noticeable when I slowed down to a stop.
Though I tried to fix it cheap with a mechanic who fixes cars in his back garden and accepts only cash, but he probably made it worse and damaged the wheel hub. So doubled the cost of the fix when I took it eventually to a dealer.
This is what you should be worried about. Was a cheap fix done by over tightening the nuts so to sell the car, or a non oem wheel bearing attempted but damaging the wheel hub? When you look into an abyss, the abyss also looks into you. Nietzsche
Please note that at no point during this work was the kettle ever put out of commission and no chavs were harmed during the making of this post.0 -
So quick update on this, the garage still haven't got in contact but I've now had a letter from a company called legalsolutions 4u on their behalf.
They are accusing me if saying it was an MOT failure which I didn't and that I signed a pre delivery inspection form which I didn't.0 -
I have had those sorts of letters before. They always say things like "legally speaking you haven't a chance legally". The idea is to put you off claiming or minimize any payout by the company. The person who wrote it probably couldn't be bothered to even read the paperwork. I imagine second hand car dealers don't do well in the small claims courts. Judges are normally reasonably perceptive and how often do you meet an honest used car dealer? "Can't Pay We'll take it away" are always visiting car dealers who have lost in court. If you feel you have a reasonable chance and fancy a gamble you can put a claim in using MoneyClaimOnline. Remember a lot of the people on here ARE motor dealers so they will always tell you everything is your fault.0

You have had the car a month.
You are too late to claim faults which may have been present at time of sale.
The faults you describe are wear and tear which are unlikely to be covered by warranty.
There is a chance that you may get a more sympathetic hearing if you go to small claims court, but I would be surprised."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi
