Firefox browser now no updates. Best substitute?

My Dell Inspiron 1520 (Windows XP) laptop was bought new in October 2007 and is still perfick. I always used it with a mini-keyboard and wireless mini-mouse so the actual keyboard has never been touched. It was bought for portability, and also as a back-up if ever my desktop PC went down. Since getting an iPad a couple of years ago, the laptop hasn't gone anywhere and so has been largely unused.

Last week my PC was out of action due to a monitor failure, so I switched on the laptop. An alert appeared from Mozilla to say that Firefox is no longer to be updated for computers running Windows XP. Mozilla suggests I stop using Windows XP altogether, but I'm happy with things the way they are: Malwarebytes Pro runs on the laptop by way of real time protection, and WinPatrol Pro is also a useful defence.

In view of that, should I continue to use the non-updateable Firefox browser -- or is there an alternative which anyone here might recommend for use with computers still on Windows XP? Thanks.

Your problem is going to be XP, not Mozilla.

Yup. I know. :) I've no grumble about Mozilla. What I'm trying to establish is if there's another browser out there that can be used with an XP machine and is continuing to be updated.

I doubt, but I don't know why you are concerned about updates, you're running Windows XP after all...

I'm not a Linux fan, but I guess in this case it would offer you much more than an old Windows XP.

No doubt you have searched and found that all the common browsers can still be used on XP, provided you use a version from some months, and usually years, ago. Updates there will be none.

A March 2014 article suggested that Maxthon (who?) was still being updated, but that was 4½ years ago!

You are concerned about getting updates for your browser but are happy to have no updates to your OS ?
You see the backwards thinking in that - right ?

The answer (unless you really want to go the Linux route) is Windows 10 if your system will allow it to be installed.

Yep, the problem isn't making the browser secure but the underlying OS which most definitely isn't. Changing browser won't change this, even your anti virus is potentially not doing it's job.

Time for all 'XP is still working' users to wake up and smell the coffee I'm afraid.

It's that or Linux, I fear. I've found a couple of Pale Moon derivatives that look kind of interesting though:
