Perhaps you should track down a download of Netscape. That won't annoy you with warnings about no further updates.

I still have XP on a few machines.

Have a look at Sandboxie, and run your browser in a sandbox:
    https://www.sandboxie.com/

Do that, don't install random downloads, and XP can still be secure enough.

hybernia, thought about trying a few versions of flavours linux live DVD, which if you like them can be installed (back your windows stuff up first, and also copy off your data.

Personally would put in a 128GB ssd disk (£20) and install on either x32 linux mint xfce, or manjaro which is only x64

Even if you do not use them, the DVD is still useful for working on windows drives when the windows os fails, or you catch a virus.

I actually install an SSD with LinuxMint Mate to use Inspiron 1520 for my friend before, the user was so amazed as she nearly gave up her computer.. (well. I don't mind which distribution you will install it, LinuxMint Xfce is lighter than Mate.)

Physical replacement of a hard disk with an SSD is so easy.

If you want to keep using Firefox comfortable for another 3- 5 years (?) with Dell Inspiron 1520, As @that said, Linux & SSD would be a serious consideration. (No OS sectarian Wars please here. Provide the solution to use this notebook safely)

As far as I know, Inspiron 1520 is USB bookable. It is fairly easy.

(You need a spacer for an SSD installation with this Insprion, or using some cardboard on the SSD... if you know what you are doing.)

    Happy safe computing :)

Lol, there's something weird about people who actually prefer such a limited OS as XP over Win 10. I can understand if the hardware just won't run a modern OS but to deliberately choose XP over Win 10 given the choice? That's like choosing a Nokia 6110 over a Google Pixel 3 because 'they don't make phones like they used to' (there's a very good reason for that).

I know W10 has more "features etc" but WinXP could run for days without a reboot, rarely if ever crashed, was extremely reliable and stable, let you control when and what updates you wanted to install, didnt spy on you etc

I regularly run Win 10 for days without a reboot, I have it on my work laptop which I leave on from Tuesday - Friday. It's very rare that I need to restart in during those days.

The Avast Secure Browser claims to run on XP SP3, as does Avast Free Antivirus. Though I haven't tried the former.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
