Interesting. They obviously hope to buy off customers one by one, rather than anyone alerting the Ombudsman, which would mean having to honour the fixed tariff across the board, as they have done with the Welcome Home one.
Looks like you'll be doing some sums.0 -

Is there not something laid down about treating all customers fairly.0 -

When I requested certain clarification, it was explained that the £200 was contingent on me staying with Eversmart until May. I said that was not acceptable and so if they can't agree to honour my price guarantee they should issue a deadlock letter so I can pursue with the Ombudsman.
Awaiting next move.0 -

Well, you might calculate that £200 would adequately compensate you, based on the current prices but then a price increase between now and May 2019 could still leave you out of pocket.
I think you are doing the right thing - not just for yourself but for anyone else on your tariff that Eversmart are trying to con.0 -
Yes,...with particular attention to ‘vulnerable’ customers,...it’s an ongoing condition of an energy suppliers licence. Is there not something laid down about treating all customers fairly.

Eversmart came back with yet another improved offer. They would extend my original tariff prices by an extra 30 days, AND also give me the £200 compensation, subject to not leaving them early.
However, in the meantime I did a better analysis of the effect of the change (hurray for spreadsheets!), using a more realistic usage profile, and discovered that, even with the 30 day extension, I would be out of pocket by about £400!
I've told them again to issue a deadlock letter.0 -

OK, I'm confused now. They're saying you can have the original tariff prices (not the ones increased by 47% that you quoted earlier) and £200 for an extended period and that's not good news?
Maybe you mean you would have to accept the recently increased tariffs (and any others that occur between now and June 2019)?0 -

Originally my Northern Glory tariff ("guaranteed until 8 May") was changed as of 24 Nov to the more expensive one. I thought they had just increased the NG tariffs, but the correspondence seems to imply I am on a different tariff - Simply Smart. In any event, I did not receive (still haven't) any supposed 30-day notification.
Their first offer was £20 compensation.
The second offer was £201.09 compensation OR they would extend my NG tariff by 30 days while I switched supplier.
The latest offer is they will extend my NG tariff by 30 days (to 24 Dec?) AND give me £201.09 compensation, which would be reduced pro rata if I leave them before May.
However, I've been looking more closely at our energy usage profile over the last two years. For example the period Jun-Dec represents about 33% of our gas usage, the other 67% being Jan-May. From this it is clear that the tariff change, even if it happens in Dec rather than Nov, will cost us nearly £400; twice as much as the offered compensation.0 -
I'm gled you are aware of your energy consumption profile and the implications of swapping suppliers/tariffs at this time of the year.
Most people dont seem to understand that they use 2/3rds of their annual energy in the 4-5 winter months and that a tariff change (unless downwards) can cost them a lot of money.
I would stand firm and complain to the ombudsmanNever under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0
