Hi folks
Arbtalk got in touch with us about a new tool its set up allowing tree surgeons etc to give away their waste wood chipppings, logs etc and businesses/individuals that can use them to access them.
We felt someone on this board might find this useful if you're ever in need of them, especially on a regular basis.
Let us know what you think/ if you use it.

Are the chips/logs then made available for the public to collect or is it just a directory for dumping?0
-
Yes, apart from there being nothing listed within 200 miles of me, I struggled to see why MSE would want to advertise this.0

Yes, it just a directory for dumping. I have volunteered as a site. It must be very new as I have not had anything yet despite putting a post on FB too.0 -
I have passed the website along to the guys at Freegle HQ but if the chipping are not going to be available to the public, I might just tell them not to bother0

Hi Towser,
Thank you for signing up. Yes it is very new. Although I have been developing it for the past 12 months it only went live a week ago. It is getting a lot of traffic and I know several tips have already been made. Hopefully someone will be in touch with you before long0 -

I contacted MSE and asked them if they would be happy for me to post this. They kindly offered to post it on my behalf. As to why they would want to advertise this? Well this is a forum specifically for people wanting to save money, and this directory I have developed does just that. End users save money by hopefully getting free wood chips and wood, and tree surgeons also save money in fuel costs by being able to tip their waste local to where they are working without having to take a potential hour long round trip back to their yards.
As far as there not being a tip site within 200 miles of you, I fear you have done something wrong with the search. I have over 800 sites listed nationwide and I am pretty sure there is nowhere that has a 200 mile distance to the nearest site. I even have a couple in the shetlands. I assume you are in the UK?0 -
ARB, I appreciate your site’s usefulness to the industry, both as a way of reducing waste transport costs and reducing operators’ involvement with waste transport regulations and land-fill tax. I always thought of MSE primarily as a source of information for the general public rather than for B2B money saving, but if that is the way MSE’s owners want to take the site, that is up to them!
I’m happy to take your word for the geographical spread of sites across UK, and suspect that the issue may be that, since it is new, your website does not yet fully function across different computer platforms.0 -
I think you have to allow the website to access your location. If you just put in your postcode and a distance, say 20miles, it does not work.0

Hi Wizard, the chips are available to the person who lists themselves as a tip site. Arbtalk has 0ver 30,000 members, many of them running tree surgery businesses throughout the UK. It is these guys who will be using the directory and will be looking for people who are able to accommodate a truck load of chip at a time. This would typically be approximately 5-6 cubic meters. Hope that helps!
Like members on here, Freegle users would be looking for a single collection and probably not in the quantities that your members would be looking to dispose of.
Wish you well with your directory but I can't see it being of much use to the 'man in the street', we will still need to hunt around looking for a couple of bags full of chippings to spread on our garden borders.
A nice lady called Cat may be in touch with Arbtalk about promoting your directory through Freegle but I don't think that she is aware yet that it is not for individuals use.0
