I mean you get the message “will you allow arbtalk.co.uk to access your location”
It does not work if you just put in a postcode and distance, no other selection pops up and I have turned off Ublock.0 -
I tried the system again this morning putting in my postcode and accepting default setting of 20 miles and got nothing - apart from a message seeking permission to use my location (which I refused).
I'm therefore inclined to believe Tom99's theory that the system needs to use user's location details as well as desired site postcode and if correct, that would indeed be a 'serious failing'.
Apodemus has already pointed out that a contractor looking for a remote site would be inconvenienced. I'd also suggest that anyone using the system from their town house would have problems finding information relevant to their country estate
Once again, no it does not need to use your location. Pan out on the map if theres nothing showing in the default view.0 -
I see what you mean now, you have to enter your postcode then click on the postcode and location that brings up just below. You cannot just type a postcode and press enter.
That's not at all intuitive and no other website I have ever come across requires that double entry for a single postcode.
It uses Google Maps which produce the same selection list but Google Maps does not require you to select an option if there is only one.
I can see it makes sense if you search on a town name or such like where there may be more than one possible location and then its obvious that a selection list is being presented.
Since two people have already been stumped by this I would suggest the website needs altering.

Hi Arbtalk,
It is a great idea. I can't wait for it to work. I hope your website will be user friendly to all the tree surgeons out there. Does it work on a phone app too?
Thank-you so much0 -

Yep I agree. Its impossible to iron out all usability options during development. Its not till things to live to a wide audience that things like this are picked up unfortunately. Thankfully theres only been a handful of things to address.
Working on this. Thanks for the feedback0 -

Thank you Towser,
I have made it very mobile friendly. I haven't ruled out an app, but they are an inherant pain in the !!!! on the whole0 -
FWIW I am familiar with the search pages also having a drop down that defines the location after the postal code is entered, I find that this IS common place now.
However the search did not find anything within 20 miles, did not display anything etc.
This is despite there being 2 sites within 5 miles of me.
Pity.
So we (the public) can go and get free wood chippings can we?
do we just take some rubble bags and fill up?0 -

That shouldn't be happening. What area are you searching please? I'll have a check.
And no, as Tom said, these are sites for tree surgeons to tip truck loads of chips at a time. Its the site that keeps the chips. If the most you are able to accommodate is a few bags at a time then this isn't for you unfortunately.0
