Many phone store staff struggle to explain features of the network they are working for.

Sadly, I think you were unreasonable expecting them to know the situation in Kuwait, most wouldn't be aware what network bands operate there, I certainly don't without looking it up.

Had you done some basic research first you might have avoided these problems.

    What "situation in Kuwait"?!
A phone locked to the network woun't work with ANY other networks except, possibly, MVNO.

Selling locked dual-SIM phones is nonsense, especially with a contract, and idiots from EE must make this clear to buyers when selling them.

perhaps using social media and EE community forum, finally going to Ombudsman Service: Communication if EE refuses to budge.

One small correction, EE use CISAS as its ADR (ombudsman).

The OP should remember they need to get a deadlock letter from EE or wait at least 56 days from making the original formal complaint.

My point was that asking store staff for advice in using your device overseas isn't sensible. Most of them wouldn't even know if a device was compatible in a particular country. I suspect many wouldn't even suspect it could be a problem.

I accept your comment about selling locked dual-sim handsets, though I suspect the blame should be laid at the store rather than the poorly-trained staff.

Consumers should do some research also, they enter a minefield when they enter a phone store.

My mistake, I was convinced they used CISAS. Sorry for correcting you.

For info - if you bought your iPhone from 3UK, it would not be locked. Secondly, not all networks support eSIM service - in the UK only EE and Vodafone currently do.... so the best way would have been to buy from Apple (or 3) an unlocked handset. Ask EE for an eSIM and when you get to Kuwait, you can slip in a Nano SIM from the foreign network and not have any problem - expecting an unknown network to offer eSIM service is a leap of faith!

Since you’re now committed - ask EE to transfer service from your physical SIM to the eSIM as this will free up the Nano SIM. Explain you’d like to unlock this to use abroad, which depending on circumstances they may do - but 6 months used to be the non-eSIM limit.

    * Vodafone is only for Watch (and not iPhone) unless it’s changed in the last couple of weeks.
