Totally feel your frustration, my husband is exactly the same .
I attempted to pick up my extra bits today. I got the nutritional yeast and a bag of mung beans threw themselves at me. I haven't had mung beans for decades! I couldn't buy the coconut aminos as they had a short date and were £5.99! I'm sure they were cheaper last time I bought them. So an extra £5.06 on my total.
Save Dosh, i also tried to buy the m&s vegan Bailey's, but unfortunately it had sold out. I'll keep checking because that is a great price. Please let us know if it tastes nice. Xxx0 -
Friday shopping clocked up spends of £8.70 (market) and £24.49 at Sainsbugs. £10.90 of that was on just 3 items - 500g butter, a large chunk of cheese and x 480 teabags (largest pack) - but tbf the butter and cheese will last us for a month and the teabags should take us through to Xmas, so not as bad as it sounds.
On the ys front I bagged 2 packs of potato cakes (75p per pack reduced to 19p per pack) and a coffee & walnut cake (£2.75 reduced to 69p). Other value items were a 500g pack of cooking bacon for £1 (full slices and not bits) and a 1kg tray of chicken wings for £2. I've cooked the chicken this morning and picked the meat off ready to make chicken & leek pies, one for dinner tomorrow and one for the freezer. Of course the meat juices, bones etc will make the obligatory stockso I guess this week's soup could end up being something along the lines of chicken & veg with noodles.
Still have £113.50 left in the kitty with no shopping needed this coming week so it's all looking good - so far!Be kind to others and to yourself too.0 -
I forgot the 4 packs of lovely Linda sausage rolls from farmf00ds that were a pound a pack instead of £2. My children eat a pack of these a week so that saving will help. I may get myself a new freezer bag so I can pick up bits from town more often.
I made bean chilli for tea and have 7 portions for the freezer. I'm off to spend sometime googling mung bean recipes, unless anyone has a good suggestion? Xx0 -

First shop of the month on Thursday. Having been living of freezer stuff as needed to empty and clean chest freezer so that is done now. Bought mainly fresh veg and some oranges. Milk, tinned toms etc. Am going to try and go veggie for the week. Going to use store cupboard lentils and beans etc. Making veg soup, frozen cauliflower and chickpea curry, and a lentil and veg shepherds pie. I live on my own so will make more than enough for one and live on it until I need to do another shop. Anything left over can go in my clean empty freezer. I am also trying to cut down on wine as I drink far too much of an evening. That comes out of a separate budget but hey one thing at a time. So my first shop in November I spent £30 on Groceries. Trying to hold off shopping again until at least next Thursday.

Good morning everyone
well I have defrosted chicken overnight and plan to make a kind of chicken a la king today. Sounds posh but it is anything but.
Also taking a loaf out of freezer rather than popping to the shops to buy one. So I am freeing up a little space in the freezer so that when I do my, Christmas/batten down for the winter freezer shop, I will have some space to store it.
Just off to start a few household chores while the rain is on but the minute it goes off (if ever) I need to go outside to start tidying up/preparing for winter. E.g. make sure bins are somewhere they wont blow away in winter storms, putting vulnerable outside planters into hut, put away outside furniture and generally tidy up outside areas.
Of course if rain continues I will achieve none of those goals. However I might bake as I noticed yesterday there are a few things in my baking cupboard that are nearing there use by date.

Checking in with a nsd, 8/30. I was up early to drop dd off at Remembrance Day parade, so I have achieved quite a lot. There is a loaf in the bread maker and I've made tomato and lentil soup and fiery parsnip soup for lunch. Homework is done and I've even managed a hour cutting back the garden hedges before the battery on the trimmer died. Tea will be lentil shepherdless pie/sausage rolls, mash and veg. I might break the back of packed lunches by making rice salad and pineapple and sweet corn salsa. It was a big tin of pineapple so maybe a pineapple upside down cake too.
This frugal, healthy eating kick is a full time kitchen job! Hope you are all enjoying your day. Xx0 -
Today's going to be a NSD for us. We didn't go to the market before heading to Remembrance Day services so almost everything is closed. That's fine since we're going to stay in now and be warm. It's been drizzling here all day. I have a few ideas for food for the rest of the week but need to gather my thoughts.

NSD here too. The house troll is happily working his way through his chocolate cake and there's enough home made scotch pancakes to go with his breakfast tomorrow as a treat (he doesn't usually get pancakes on a school day). I've eaten the last of my butternut squash soup for lunch so I need to make something else tomorrow and I've taken some chicken breasts out of the freezer to make a roast dinner later.
Attempt number two at the cheesecake has been slightly modified (the texture was wrong) and is back in the fridge. The ice cream that has resulted from attempt number one is so lovely I've kept the recipe. All dairy free things are welcomed by my friend so it won't be wasted.0
