Oh dear Heavens, I'm drooling reading what some of you are doing! Roll on Tuesday, when I can slowly start to eat fruit & veg again...

£47.74 for week 2 including milk. Technically it's not week 2 until Monday but I needed a few bits and I don't love the supermarket enough to go today and Monday as well so I thought I'd just get everything that was on my list.

I experimented for this evening's meal - I'm following slimming world but I wanted enchiladas so I concocted an enchilada lasagne. I made it the usual lasagne way but made a spicy enchilada mix for the filling. I used plenty of veg, tomatoes and mushrooms in the filling too. It was lovely. My cooking has been stuck in a bit of a rut lately so I want to try and make something new at least once a fortnight if I can. I'd say once a week but the lasagne made 6 portions, the macaroni cheese I made earlier in the week made 5 portions and there's only me eating them so....

Weekly shop done at A5da today for £65.66. DS asked for a couple of healthy fruit and snacks which I was happy to get as I am concerned about his weight and he is trying to make healthy choices. I wish the same could be said for me who made the schoolgirl error of shopping when starving and added about £3 worth of rubbish to the trolley.

The shop n scan system was broken and I really noticed how much longer it took to do the shop today and get it scanned and packed on the self service bit. Not helped by a dodgy machine that couldn't read the bag scale properly.

DH has been on a diet plan this week and there has only been me eating dinner at home. I haven't eaten meat all week. It hasn't been an active choice just what I have preferred to eat. I was veggie for many years before I was coeliac and can see me going back to it in the main but not 100%. It should help the purse too as most ready made veggie items are not gluten free so I will be eating plant based instead.

Isn't it unfair K9 that its a postcode lottery in terms of charity shops too? I suppose the other good thing about new Pyrex is it often comes with its own lid which is super handy.

Thanks so much for the idea of identifying veggie body builders, I never thought there was such a thing! (IYSWIM). I totally agree about some meat free days. I'd be meat free mostly if I lived by myself. I did try a lentil and sweet potato curry from BBC Good Fodd last week, sounds dull but with the amends suggested in the comments on the page, and some M&S roasted garam masala at the end instead of curry powder at the beginning, DH and 2DS all ate it happily - hurrah! :T

    Yes, very hit and miss.
Not to worry. I looked on mysupermarket and only Ocado and Morrisons doing the Pyrex offer, which makes sense. They do come with lids as it's the Pyrex and go range, not sure how the guarantee works in terms of if you lose the lid or it breaks though!?
Due to the warehouse thing, alot of products have started appearing on Morrisons that are sold at Ocado. So it makes sense that they would both have them. No money off voucher at Morrisons though.

Glad the Hench Herbivore suggestion helped. I find him quite informative the times I have watched him. Need to revisit these videos sometimes, as I find meal planning easier with a visual than looking at a pic or recipe. Shame we can't find out if any MSEers have Youtube ... that would be interesting :D

Off to work today after three days not on rota, and I am not looking forward to it. It's been bliss, even if I haven't been as productive as I could have been. a few people off aswell in the weeks to come, so I am guessing i'll be on extras this next week :(. Gonna try not to come out with half the shop tonight; and come straight home after work as don't need to grab stuff from Morrisons either.

    Enjoy your weekend everybody :)

Shopping this afternoon as I've just done a meal plan for next week. I need mainly fresh fruit and veg to supplement what I've grown and frozen, plus some dairy and dog food.
I'll be shopping at lidl and topping up what I can't find with sains...
Hopeful to come in within budget.
  • Nice to see Iceland sticking to their pledge of removing palm oil from 'own label' products. They have just had their Xmas add banned - it's here if you haven't seen it. Am happy to support their cause. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JdpspllWI2o£2

£2 food spends since last Friday on tons of mushrooms and 4 x aubergine. Not sure why I keep buying aubergine, never been able to cook one that doesn’t taste like a greasy sponge - any tips greatly received. Been cooking out of stores for fridge/freezer – made veggie burgers, vegan surf n turf, vegan paella, spicy potato wedges, savory veggie mince, lentil n carrot soup, 2 x spicy dips (red & brown lentil), crispy potato hash, kale pesto (!!!!). Alcohol….. First spends since doing ‘Sober October, bought the M&S vegan version of Baileys which everyone raves about (well 4 bottles, actually), which has been reduced from £12.49 to £6.25. One bottle will be added to groceries, as I’m gonna drink that and the other 3 will be stashed for stocking fillers. If I should accidentally drink them, then I will add the totals to alcohol fund. Have an amazing w/e everyone. Have updated sig.
  • Yesterday was a NSD. We each bought a bottle of red wine but those were gifts for party hosts, so I'm not counting it.

€8.36 at Lidl this afternoon for 3x mozzarella balls, cucumber, eggplant, and toilet paper.

    TOTALS SO FAR
    €96.30 / €300.00
    3 / 12 NSDs

I made a chocolate cake for the house troll today and I've had a go at dairy free cheesecake for my bestie. Attempt number one is in the freezer - it's going to be lemon ice cream as it's too liquid for cheesecake. Attempt number two is looking more solid and is in the fridge. Fingers crossed. How can something be so complicated (and neither attempt involved soaking cashew nuts). I'm only experimenting with the cheesecake bit just now and the try that is going to be ice cream tastes like lemon curd - it's gorgeous but just very runny.
  • OH has spent £30 at the supermarket today, buying in the basic fresh stuff for the coming week. I'm not squawking too much; it's more than I would have spent but he's very new to this! (Would just go & buy whatever he fancied if not carefully directed, and probably bought some of whatever he fancied as well as the stuff on the list!)

My aim this month is simply to keep track, really. I should be able to take back the reins shopping-wise before very long, and am already doing most of the cooking again, if only so that I can keep track of what's in it and what's being used! Control freak, me...?

  • Hubby came home last night, £100 spent. I’m within budget but it’s a struggle to be honest. The family want what they want and hubby doesn’t see the issue in the amount we spend on food. As it provides three meals a day for four people he’s a bit ambivalent. I just feel its exvesdive!♀️
