Spends for the month now up to £128.14 - averaging out at apx £10.67 a day. Big-ish shop at the weekend so smaller spends across the week should even this out.

Sustainability and reducing food miles are really important to me so currently looking at veg box schemes, not sure how this would affect my ability to plan meals and budget though, would love to hear others experiences with this :)

I have used R1v3rf0rd on and off for several years. They advise a week in advance what will be in the box and I meal plan around this. They also send a recipe card and there are loads of recipes on their site which is helpful with the more unusual items. The expected contents very rarely change as they must have to order some stuff in and it can contain items from abroad.

They do a box which contains just UK produced veg as well which would reduce your food miles.

Did a fair shop at the weekend, mainly fresh fruit, vegetables and fish plus dog food. Not got much spends left for the rest of the month but I must remember update my sig and to deduct the cost of dog food from the total. However if I'm careful I should have enough in the freezers (milk, butter, bread meat etc) and veg store/plot (potatoes, leeks kale, sprouts, toms, peppers) to help.
  • Just been totalling up my recent spends, total is £146.55, which for me is a good place to be when we're almost half way through the month. Will need bread and milk over the weekend, but not much else.
I'm planning on trying to use up what's in the freezers this month, to leave space for the Christmas frozen foods. Need to do a full freezer inventory, so I can plan the rest of the month, but I have the food organised until the weekend, with mostly what we already have in.

Save Dosh, i also tried to buy the m&s vegan Bailey's, but unfortunately it had sold out. I'll keep checking because that is a great price. Please let us know if it tastes nice. Xxx
It's really beautiful, tastes very much like real Baileys (nicer imo). Would highly recommend.

No spends since last post, but probably will have tomorrow. Been using stores, but need some basics, tomatoes, onions, carrots, etc. made 4 batches of soup - broccoli & callalloo & gawd knows how much spicy bean chilli. I have thai green curry for tonight, so it will all be frozen.

Anyone made egg free mayo with aquafaba - on my to do list.

  • My lovely parents did a big shop on Saturday at M&S for dinner and popped in loads of yummy fruit, veg and treats for me as well as roasting a whole chicken for my lunches this week so I am feeling very lucky!

That is super lucky! I'd love to come home to surprise roasted chicken. :) Hope it tasted great and you enjoyed it with your parents.

Today was a NSD for me. A Thanksgiving menu is formulating in my head but I should start writing it down and making a shopping list. Tomorrow I'll have to head out for more fruit and paper towels amongst other things. There's still a bit of uncooked curry seasoned chicken breast that I'll use tomorrow. While rummaging around in the freezer this past weekend I also found some pork chops that I'll likely thaw later this week.

  • £12 spent by me, myself, today! A quick hurtle up to the supermarket for some fresh fruit, such veg as I'm allowed and some cream so I can make some scones for my mother's visit tomorrow. I'm hugely relieved to be more mobile again. And can start to relax gradually on the fibre front...

Hooray! Glad you are up and about again. X

Save Dosh, thank you for the review. I shall look again.

Nsd 10/30. Leftover tomato and lentil soup and homemade bread for the children, tarka daal and defrosted brown rice for adults. And I made Welsh cakes for dessert/packed lunches.

My daughter came home from food technology class today to inform me that the average family spends £300 per month on food. I could cry with our bill. We barely buy meat and I cook almost everything from scratch. I am a little bit down about it.

    Xx

I did this one though I used agave as that is what I had in. Had to do in two batches in my bledtec twist jug. Worked well and a lot cheaper. 8 servings makes a lot so be aware of that.

    Oh NSD today.
I am a vegan woman. My OH is a lovely omni guy :D

But maybe that’s because you do cook everything from scratch and don’t buy cheap ready meals and frozen foods. I’m not sure who this average family is either because atm £300 is just about achievable for us ( 2 adults) and we don’t really do a lot of treats, take own packed lunches to work etc, but mine does include everything ie toiletries, alcohol and household cleaning and you said specifically food. Makes you think !

Will have to pick up a couple of bits I’ve run out of today ( butter, yoghurts etc) unless I do my bigger shop as my cupboards are starting to look bare with no pasta etc left in and I don’t like that!! Will see.

Dinner today will be a curry of some kind, probably prawn as I know they’re in the freezer.

    Have a good day everyone.:)
