I wish I could buy a battery from apple for £25, but I assume they won't sell it to me.
I recall I purchased a 5S battery off ebay for £5, but it over heated and the phone turned off when it reached ~40%.
I should have paid more I guess.0 -

Well, £25 is still over-priced, but this is the way to go, this is a very sensible demand, but as you said, the reality is very harsh. Apparently, Apple even confiscates genuine batteries from independent repairers...)

Now it seems that Apple products became completely untouchable by the end-users. When Steve Jobs introduced the first Apple computer in 1976, Jobs even included diagrams in their manual to open and hack the computer. I feel something is wrong with IT industry now.

Yes, don't buy eBay cheap batteries, including for notebooks. The weight of these batteries would be 10-20 % lighter than the original one (i.e. less capacity) Who cares about the quality of the batteries when supping a fake capacity? In the end, we just need decent batteries made with high quality lithium battery cells (Samsung, LG, Sony, Panasonic, Sanyo, Lishen etc). As you know Apple simply outsources the battery production.
Again, I would recommend ReplaceBase, which offers 30 days Return policy (No affiliation! ) . Sometime you can get ReplaceBase own higher capacity batteries.

Sadly it seems that Apple intentionally make the battery replacement more complicated with newer iPhone, but as far as I know, the older models are not as bad as the latest models (as you have done this before)

I was hoping to take advantage of Apple’s discount before it expires at the end of the year but the screen is cracked so once you factor that in it’d be cheaper for me to purchase a refurbished SE.It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.0
