iPhone battery not orginal...

So just got back from town after an infuriating appointment at Apple....so here is the story.

Took my old IPhone 6S into them for replacement battery. Honey is now using it. Phone in great condition. They will only repair phones in excellent condition. Phone was near perfect considering I bought in 2015....however...

1. No complaints from Apple - staff were amazing as always.
2. Came back an hour later expecting to get phone with new snazzy battery, but no....
3. Turns out it has an after-market battery in it. 🤔🤔🤔
4. Bought the brand phone new from Carphone warehouse on contract with o2. Never has the phone been repaired in any way...
5. Therefore I have surmised that I have been done over by carphone warehouse and they have sold me a handset that wasn’t brand new!!! I definitely did not buy a “as new” or “refurbished” phone.

I feel a legal battle coming on!

Apple couldn’t say, but I get the impression this isn’t the first time it has happened and tha carphone warehouse are scamming so and so’s! Apple are going to support me with proof, photos etc, but I guess the snag will be proving I’ve never had the battery replaced...

HELP!

Anyone got any advice?!

😭😭😭

Would an iPhone 6S really of had a replacement battery in 2015 ?
    Answer. Very unlikely!

Would Apple be trying to wriggle out of a cheap replacment? Sounds more likely to me.

I have been pondering whether I should get mine replaced while this discount is available. As I know my phone is water damaged, I don't think its worth even trying to take it to them and arguing.

I had my wife's iPhone battery replaced on Monday (at an Apple store). Also bought in 2015.

No problems at all, in at 2.30 and out at 3.30 with a new battery.

I can't see why Apple would lie about the battery, after all. It's simple enough to open the phone and look.

You're better off going to a 3rd party retailer and be done with the manufacturer.

Well, this is not everyone’s choice but you may want to replace a battery by yourself. No more Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt (FUD) from manufacture's silly policy. Well I still suggest you to do this after warranty period.

I have done some Apple battery replacements, iPhone5, and iPad mini for my wife. iPhonesSE at a volunteer Workshop. All have been working fine. I have used all 3rd party batteries. (CameronSino, ReplaceBase). I think it is important to supply high quality 3rd party replace parts as well as genuine parts.

Everything will be your responsibility! This idea may not be compatible with Apple products very much, but I personally really like this idea, which leads to Right to Repair movement.

  • Sadly you're right Andy, if the phone shows any signs of liquid damage they won't touch it for the replacement battery. As soon as the handset is damaged in any way, they would want that issue to be resolved prior to any other repairs taking place.

If Apple will replace the battery at a discount, going to a 3rd party doesn't make financial sense, especially given the not insignificant risk of 3rd party battery swappers breaking the phone and not being able to fix it.
