  • I have just switched my electrity accoutn to Ebico Zero Green Fixed V2 @ 21p per unit/ No standing charge/ No exit fee.

I was previously on their Zero tariff @17p per unit// No standing charge/ No exit fee.

However, the introduction of a 17p per day standing charge on this tariff meant it was cheaper for my to have a unit price of 21p on the new tariff. I use 1100 units per year.

Similar situation here. A standing charge would have put my bill up by £124 a year. I prefer to take my chances with an increase in cost per kWh. I monitor my usage very carefully and can always find ways to cut back. I feel more in control that way.

I've just put my meter readings in.

I only use about 850-900 kwh per year - so will have to check for the cheapest deals...bit of a pain but hey ho !

Was on Zero go the e-mail completed the switch to Ebico Zero Green Fixed V2 online it took me literally 2 seconds. Didn't ask for readings DD's or anything. My account has updated to show the tariff has switched over straight away.

Mugged myself off a little as a might as well have waited until the end date 29/11 but at least I can forget about it for a year now.
  • I was paying my bill at the weekend when I noticed the news on the Ebico website - no separate notification yet. But once again this site comes up trumps - thanks for all your contributions.

Some number crunching shows that going on to a SC tariff would mean a 42.44% increase in my electricity bill and a 113.16% increase in my gas

On the new zero tariff increases would be "only" 24.7% and 19.65%!:D

I'm a low user like Ilona and xenon, and it's all a bit of a pain. It's not that I can't afford it, but there appears to be reducing incentives for being a low user and not putting much strain on the system.

This is what really gets my goat.

The Government are spending billions of our money trying to make people more energy efficient and to cut consumption, yet a series of Government/Ofgem decisions have progressively hit low energy consumers the hardest.

Rather than 'protecting' me with a 'simple' tariff and a price-cap, bullying me into having a smart meter, and offering to give me free insulation (not needed) I would much rather they'd left things alone and allowed an energy company to reward me for cutting my consumption by charging me proportionally less for what I do use.

'Nanny state' has gone mad. :(

I received a letter yesterday about Ebico zero changing to Ebico standard. Also my quarterly paper bill that arrived yesterday mentions this price rise in November.

My bill states if I use the same amount of energy as this year I should have Ebico green fixed V2 for electricity 1050 kWh, and Ebico prime fixed V2 for gas, the gas 4292 KWh.

I have yet to switch but will do it on Monday at the latest, I've been with Ebico for that many years and I like their single tariff prices because it's simple to work out my bills than it is with different priced tiers. I probably will just stay with Ebico and do a comparison later when I'm more able to deal with the hassle of it all.

Great thread it has helped me.I have been with Ebico since 2006 mainly because of the no standing charge and great service.

So decided to join the MSE Cheap Energy Club and just switched to Outfox the Market with an estimated saving of £271 so I hope that it turns out that way. Good luck to all forced to switch!

I've just switched to green V2 by telephone call and my new price increase doesn't start until 29th November, I also was told I have a 2 weeks cooling off period incase I change my mind switching. Lady on the phone said I should receive my new energy details through the post in 5-10 days time.

Well, at least Ebico is true to form in blaming other people for its action which represents a masked price rise.

What Ebico is actually saying is that the price cap which is designed to help vulnerable customers is to be ignored and the default tariff to which it applies is to be removed. That from a company which is pledged to help vulnerable customers. But we've seen that contradiction before in the switch of partner to RHE.

But confusion immediately sets in at least for me: If the new tariff becomes the new default tariff to which customers are automatically switched to when their existing tariff ends then surely that new tariff will be subject to the price cap!
