Yes - I know all this and btw I have contacted the Scottish Teachers Pension Service . ..........

    Please read the replies carefully.

You are being asked questions which you seem to just ignore.
Providing details - dates, names etc - will get rid of the confusion you are sowing re: is it 2 or 3 pensions.
You've been advised to *phone* the STPS rather than the long response time emails & letters- have you?
The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....

The STPS ask people to e mail and not phone. They cannot answer my questions on the phone.I have to wait 6 weeks!

I have three pensions from them - why would i lie? And I wish people would not judge me here.

This forum is about people helping and not criticising.

Once again - started in 76 -left in 1985 and restarted in 1988. Retired in 2013 and started again in 2015. Collected my pension in 2013 and collected another two in 2016. Will be collecting another two in 2018.I received benefit statements occasionally in the 80s and 90s. I took out a private pension in 85 which was placed into my teacher's pension in 1988. I am only trying to find out was my private pension put in? Have all the authorities been notified about my service?
Ask the administrator for a copy of your record showing all service periods, with transfer-in credits included and marked up accordingly.

Yes - this is what I want and need to see!!!

Am I the only person who's confused by this? Have you been working for different education authorities/councils and somehow been given two separate CARE pensions instead of one composite one?

As for phone calls to the agency, down here in England our Teachers Pension agency don't encourage telephone enquiries either, but when you do phone them they can be very helpful. Give it a try. Have a notepad handy and jot down whatever they tell you to do. And also email them.

And in the name of all that's holy, stop putting financial letters in the bin!

    so now it's 5 pensions? - I give up.
One might have hoped that a member of the teaching profession would be a little more organised in their thoughts and deeds, clear in their answers, and receptive to questions and advice?

Back in the 80s I did not care a jot about my pension - a necessary evil. But I stuck with it!
This member of the teaching profession had other things on his mind - like getting married, buying a house and having kids.

Yes I will have five pensions - sorry you don't approve. Like I said I have been working for different authorities.

Nowadays I have been mortgage free, watching my grandchildren grow up, saving financial letters and wondering why i have three pensions. Hoping that the STPS will answer my questions.
When I was training to be a teacher we did not have any training on pensions and like most people I don't have a clue but I came here for advice and help. I think the reason I have three pensions is because I worked for three different authorities at the same time as a supply teacher!

This doesn't mean you have separate pensions for each one though, because the Teachers scheme doesn't work like that (PS - this is different to if you were a member of the support staff [e.g as a teaching assistant] instead, and so eligible for the LGPS rather than Teachers, because the LGPS does have a general concept of multiple memberships).

That will be the pension involving the transfer in, given it happened in 1988. All your later membership is entirely irrelevant to the question of whether the service credit somehow got 'lost' or not.

In the lingo, it would have bought reckonable service in the STSS, i.e the total years and days that counted towards the pension brought into payment in 2013 should have been been greater than the total years and days you were actually a member of the STSS.

You contributed to STPS DB Final Salary Scheme 1976 -1985.

    You contributed to a private scheme 1985 - 1988.

You rejoined the STPS DBFS in 1988 and (you think) transferred in your private pension to buy reckonable service in STPS.

There should be a record of the transfer in and the service bought.
This is what you need to check with the Administrator.

You drew this pension in 2013 when you retired.

    Is this Pension One?

You say that you started teaching again in 2015 and started to contribute to the STPS DB CARE Scheme - you are now receiving a pension in respect of this service?

    Is this Pension Two?

What are Pensions Three (you are already receiving this?) Four and Five?

All these pensions are being paid (or are to be paid) by STPS?

And what exactly does your State Pension Statement say?

Ok my State Pension starts in December and is reduced because I contracted out.
Yes you are right - I put my private pension back into my teachers pension in 1988 - I just need this confirmed.

When I retired I claimed my pension. However I found a job with two authorities and started to contribute to a new pension scheme (CARE). I wondered why I was contributing to a new pension and was told that I could stop and take out the two of these as pensions - hence three pensions. I am now working for two authorities and contributing again! Hence I need to take these out - pensions 4 and 5. Don't ask I don't know why!
  • Your replies are coming across very patronising - this person is only asking for help, if he doesn’t understand what people are asking then it is not your place to make judgement. One might hope a member of forums should be kinder and give helpful responses rather than very patronising and unnecessary rude replies. If you can’t help or feel as if your message isn’t getting across - just exit the forum and don’t leave such replies which can insult someone. Thanks very much but I think everyone can see your specific help isn’t needed.
