Worth googling them. A cash equivalent transfer value (CETV) is the cash value placed on your pension benefits and a defined benefit (DB) pension scheme is one where the amount you’re paid is based on how many years you’ve worked for your employer and the salary you’ve earned.

You must kept the paperwork relating to the transfer of your private pension, surely?

    Right!

The pensions are from the the Scottish Teachers Pension. What information do you need? I am sorry that I'm a bit thick on this but I never seen what goes into my pension. Before computerisation it was the occasional benefit statement which ended up in the bin because I didn't understand it. The benefit statements for 2017 and 2018 I understand - it was previous to this (under the final salary scheme) that I was wondering about.

I did not have any paperwork for the transfer of the private pension. I trusted these people to transfer this for me.

Have you tried simply calling the SPPA? Whilst emails and letters do take a while to be responded to myself and my colleagues have always found them to be excellent on the phone!

Well i am as confused as ever. The confusion arises from the fact that there were (sometimes) no benefit statements in the 80s/90s. I paid a private pension in (around the late 80s) and I worked for various councils. At the time I was more concerned about my teaching career and we didn't bother too much about pensions. I retired a few times. I now have three pensions.

You have a DB pension from STPS which came into payment at age 60?

This pension includes the "transfer in" from the private pension?

You have a CARE pension from STPS built up over the last few years which you are now taking.

You are in receipt of two pensions?

If three, what is the third?

Yes - I know all this and btw I have contacted the Scottish Teachers Pension Service . They take 6 weeks to respond (they tell you this!)so it could take months to sort this out. All three pensions are from the Scottish Teachers Pension Service. I was asking "How do i know that my private pension is there?" AND have all of my contributions/service been accounted for.

But you don't have three pensions? You have two?

You have the STPS Defined Benefit Final Salary pension which you took at age 60.

You have the STPS Defined Benefit CARE Pension which you have just started taking.

When you transferred your private pension into the STPS DB Final Salary Scheme it bought benefits in that scheme - it is not a third pension.

Ask the administrator for a copy of your record showing all service periods, with transfer-in credits included and marked up accordingly.

If you find that the transfer did not take place, then presumably you have a pension with another provider which you have not yet taken.

What does your new state pension statement actually say?

    That's unfortunate.
