They have said they are not prepared to do anything but extend the subscription by two months. I asked if they had any alternative gifts and they said no.
They said I can write in to the company complaining, not sure what that will achieve though.
The thing that has really p1ssed me off is they say they can not give me a refund. I paid £38 up front and only bought the subscription for the game, the magazine was a bonus. Not something I would buy really.
Any ideas what can be done about this apart form writing a nasty letter? Has everybody else had the same response?
if you paid by credit card then do a chargeback - i do this several times a year with my cc companies egg and barclaycard - companies will one day learn to not con peopleStevie Coppell's record breaking blue and white royal army - championship winners 2005-60 -

http://www.fhm.com/subscribeHi, I've already asked and been granted for permission via PM for a Help for Heroes link. Pfft.
As my previous signature said, I support Help for Heroes0 -
Like others here I feel bad coz I recommended this to several friends who took this up and recieved "free" flights. Their customer services were closed over Xmas so I emailed them. Just got this reply. I suspect anyone emailing them will get it too so pre warned is pre armed and all
.
Thank you for your recent email.
We are very sorry that your original gift is unavailable, we reserve the right to exchange for another gift in cases of excessive demand as advertised in the terms and conditions of the subscription offer. It is unfortunately not the Publishers policy to refund against unmailed issues but to cancel the subscription on expiry.
You are however welcome to return the flight vouchers to:

Upon receipt I can advise you of the latest alternative gifts available.
I trust this has clarified the situation and once again apologise for any inconvenience this has caused.
I have replied :
I will return the flight tickets as instructed.
I have looked through your terms and conditions available at the time of placing an order. I have inserted the only entry I can find applicable to this case below :
Other promotions & competitions
From time to time, we (or selected third parties) may include competitions, promotions or other offers on this website. Each such offer shall be subject to its own express terms and may not be available in all jurisdictions.
This term states that promotions will be subject to their own express terms but does not explain what those terms would be. At no time during the order process were the said express terms made available to me.
I would like to receive the free gift as advertised or cancel the subscription. As I have indicated the free gift was played a major part in my decision to take up the subscription offer. I hope you have the ability to rectify this situation. If you cannot I will contact my credit card company and advise them that I have not received the goods I agreed to purchase and request that they return my money.
Hope this gives you all a bit of a head start on getting your money back.0 -
hi we managed to get this deal to to sxchange tickets fpr something else hope everyone else does to !0

Yep same thing happened to me although I have been offered a refund - Are the free flights that useless tho?[/quote]
Yes they are useless. They are only available from London airports. Anywhere else incurs a charge. You have to give them 30 days notice, and give them 3 different dates you are able to fly on. You only get three destinations. Dublin, Paris and Amsterdam, and in these times of cheap flights you can get a flight to each of these destinations for next to nothing. The biggest con of the whole thing is that you have to stay in a hotel from the company offering the deal for a minimum of three nights. How do any of these points equate to a free flight?0 -
well i got a reply back from great magazines.....
seems slightly different from everyone elses but i only wanted the game...

Thank you for your recent email.
I am very sorry to read that you have not received your free gift. All
outstanding orders have now been fulfilled and to date none have been
returned to us by the Post Office as undeliverable, I am therefore
unaware of any reason for non-receipt.
I also unfortunately have to advise all stock has now been exhausted,
may I therefore ask you to choose an alternative from the following:
Blazing Angels Game
Body Shop Spa (mens only)
Box Fresh x 5
Ben Sherman set & Boxers Med
Ben Sherman set & Boxers Lar
Real Shaves x 7
Redken x 5
Simple products in a bag
Toni & Guy Grooming Set
L'Oreal Techni art
Wilkinson Sword x 3
Once again please accept my apologies for any inconvenience this may
have caused, I do however hope you will find the alternative satisfactory
and trust you continue to enjoy the magazine.Listen to what people say, but watch what people what people do!!0 -
I ordered the FHM deal with Assassins Creed on November 8th. After 28 days I called and was told that the game was in stock and I would be sent one, and it should be there in a couple of days. After two days I got a letter with the "free" flight vouchers. I telephoned back saying how angry I was and demanded a refund. I was told to submit it in writing, which I did. I heard back after the new year where I was emailed and told that it was not policy to give refunds and they were in the right to offer an alternative gift. I used info gained on this board and other boards (moneysavingexpert) and got back in touch demanding a refund or the game. I was told that the game was out of stock and I would have to send back the vouchers before I got a refund. I sent back the vouchers, but still did not hear from them. I telephoned again expressing my anger once again and was told that I would get a refund by cheque within 7 days. Two days later on 15th of January, I was telephoned and told that they had a copy of the Assassins Creed and would I like it. I said that providing the game was brand new, then yes I would like a copy. Today a brand new copy of Assassins Creed was deliverd. My advice, is really get at them demanding a full refund or the game, and really put the ball in their court. They don't want to lose customers so will do their damndest to sort something out.0

This is my story with this offer:
Subscribed/renewed my subscription on the 23rd Nov (looking at the date people started subscribing, I had no chance of getting the game, but thought I try anyway), called them a couple of times to see where the game was then eventually like others received the flight vouchers. At the time I was busy so left it. Then I saw their new offer of Ace Combat 6 and so decided to call them. I explained to them calmly that the flight vouchers were useless to me and the lady listed to me the alternatives. I was a bit silent at that point. She then offered to put a note in the system where if I see anything I like later on I can call them and have that. It was then that I said I wanted Ace Combat 6. She gave me an address to send the vouchers back and a few weeks later the game arrived.
So what I'm trying to say is be patient, talk to them calmly rather than demand this or that and be prepared to compromise. I didn't get Assassin's Creed, but I got Ace Combat 6, which in my opinion is just as good.
