Don't you? I now make many of the purchases that I would have used cash for in the past with a card, most of which are contactless. I haven't done the analysis but I would guess that I make more card purchases under £30 than I do over £30, and if contactless is available then that's what I use.
Indeed, and since all my credit card transactions are on a spreadsheet, it's easy to check. Over the last year I have 1539 transactions, of which 1526 were less than £30, so ~99.2%.

I have contactless cards but I will admit I don't use them as contactless. I know the technology is safe and what not but I feel happier sticking the card in the machine and entering my number.

The sad thing is that retailers get charged for all transactions regardless of how big or small they are it’s just a matter of time before the customer will too be charged for using their card(be it chip& pin or contactless) as cash becomes rarely used.....we’re being led to be a card dependant society!!!

It also costs businesses to put money in the bank, so the additional cost is negligible.

The customer is not allowed to be charged for paying by card under EU law.

  • I find Barclaycard Bpay even more convenient, don't even need to get my card out, or even have it with me.
I came into this world with nothing and I've got most of it left.

And thereby providing an opportunity for someone to shoulder surf your PIN.

The great advantage of Contactless is the reduction in the opportunities for shoulder surfing a PIN or skimming at an ATM when withdrawing cash.

It's extremely useful on the London underground where there are large numbers of people and they can progress very quickly with a "tap".

Also very handy on buses, much better than waiting for people to pay by cash at every stop.

    Also useful for lunch.

If your retired and have all day and live in a sleepy village and like to chat then no worries but if you work in London where there might be 30 people in front of you in the lunch queue then it's great so I'd vote "popular".

I've had no issues with fraud or duplicate transactions since contactless was implemented.

The amount of times I've seen it not work on the tube, especially mobile tapping, and people can't get through. It's no quicker than an Oyster card (which is safer than your debit card).

Or having someone swipe your Contactless card and go on a spending spree for a few hours. It's actually easier to capture your details via Contactless at the point of contact on the terminal via infrared or similar and then use the info to buy product or services above £30. It's been proven. Someone tested it and bought a £3k TV by doing so.

Exactly, all these people saying how wonderful Contactless is are forcing retailers to pay charges on fees on transactions worth pennies or a few pounds because they won't carry cash. It's pathetic. Those pennies and pounds, for big retailers, adds up to a lot of money. Those 2-5% terminal fees add up quick.

Me too. I've opted out of Contactless from Nationwide (when Ii was with them), Halifax (two cards) and Santander (three cards). Tesco Bank don't allow it, and someone used my card for Contactless the other day (for the first time) without asking me if I wanted to. It was at the Tesco hand carwash and you never know if these people have got a device set up to steal your card info by infrared near the terminal.

I feel safer not having Contactless cards on my wallet. If I did, someone could use 6 cards and spend potentially thousands, as it's been proven that some banks don't prompt for PIN at least 11 times in a row.
